Product Description

International publishing sensation Patricia Cornwell's legion of readers will welcome this omnibus edition of her third and fourth megabestselling Kay Scarpetta novels, All That Remains and Cruel & Unusual. These two novels, presented here complete and unabridged, helped to confirm Patricia Cornwell's status as queen of the forensic thriller and one of the world's top bestselling authors.

All That Remains

A killer is stalking young lovers. Taking their lives and leaving just a tantalizing clue.

When the bodies of young couples start turning up in remote woodland areas, Dr. Kay Scarpetta's task as Virginia's Chief Medical Examiner is made more difficult by the effects of the elements. Eight times she must write that the cause of death is undetermined.

But when the latest young woman to go missing is the daughter of one of America's most powerful women, Kay also finds herself prey to political pressure and press harassment. The killings must stop. Now.

Scarpetta soon discovers that someone is withholding vital evidence, or even faking it. Meanwhile, a cunning sadistic killer is still at large.

Cruel & Unusual

At 11:05 one December evening in Richmond, Virginia, convicted murderer Ronnie Joe Waddell is pronounced dead in the electric chair. At the morgue, Dr. Kay Scarpetta has been waiting for Waddell's body. Preparing to perform a postmortem before the subject is dead is a strange feeling for Scarpetta, but she has been here before. And Waddell's death is not the only newsworthy event on this freezing night: the grotesquely wounded body of a young boy is found propped against a garbage Dumpster. To Scarpetta, the two cases seem unrelated, until she recalls that the body of Waddell's victim had been arranged in a strikingly similar position.

Was Waddell innocent? Is someone else out there, who may attack again?

About the Author

"It's important for me to live in the world I want to write about," says Patricia Cornwell "If I want a character to do or know something, I try to do or know the same thing." The award-winning former police reporter spent time working both as an employee of the Virginia Chief Medical Examiner's Office and as a volunteer police officer before she wrote her first Kay Scarpetta novel, Postmortem. Her preparation paid off -- Postmortem was the first novel ever to win the Edgar, Creasey, Anthony, Macavity, and French Prix du Roman d'Aventure awards in one year. She has followed that up with ten other bestselling novels featuring Kay Scarpetta. Ms. Cornwell then began a new series with her #1 New York Times bestsellers Hornet's Nest and Southern Cross. She is also the author of two cookbooks, Scarpetta's Winter Table and Food to Die For; A Time for Remembering, a biography of Ruth Bell Graham, wife of evangelist Billy Graham; a children's book, Life's Little Fable; and her #1 bestselling work of nonfiction, Portrait of a Killer: Jack the Ripper -- Case Closed. She lives in New York City.

3.0 out of 5 stars Thrilling, cannot put the book down!, Sep 20 2011
By Sally - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Scarpetta Collection Volume II: All That Remains and Cruel & Unusual (Paperback)
I am glad I can have 2 novels ( All That Remains and Cruel and Unusuall) in one book. When you start reading these novels you cannot simply put the book down! I have read several novels in the series and my objective observation is that the first novels in the Kay Scarpetta series are ' better' in plot than the last ones.
There are times that I take inspiration on how Kay Scarpetta handles tough times in her work, how she carries herself in composure even though she's quite unsure in herself, or breaking apart from emotional strain, and her enthusiasm to do her work well with her heart in it.
If she were a real person, I would like to have a long chat with her - about her profession, life in general, and how she sees the world, how she deals with the people who aim for her destruction, and ask her some cooking tips.

I look forward to read more novels !
