Fly Guy is subsequently banned from the room by her replacement, who is a terrible cook. Finally, Buzz comes up with a plan, Roz is reinstated, and Fly Guy gets to stay in the lunchroom. The writing is fast paced, the plot is interesting, and many of the humorous and mildly gross details will appeal to children. The cartoon illustrations are funny and action-packed and the layout is appropriate for beginning readers, with one or two sentences per page. The text has suitable repetitive phrases to aid the developing fluency of students beginning to read independently. K-Gr. 3. There's definitely a "buzz" in the school lunchroom. It's Fly Guy, Buzz's pet fly. Fly Guy loves the dirty dishes, the smelly mop, and the garbage cans. When he meets Roz, the lunch lady, she pronounces, "No flies in the lunchroom!" Then Fly Guy endears himself to her by saying her name, "Rozzz," and she feeds him treats (fish heads in sour milk). Sadly, Roz is fired after her boss demands a fly-free lunchroom. She is replaced by Miss Muzzle, who burns the peas and turnips. Everyone misses Roz, and Buzz makes a plan. After Fly Guy boinks Miss Muzzle on the nose, she tries to swat him and makes such a mess that she is fired, and Roz returns. Arnold's golf ball-eyed kids and fly are amusingly and comically exaggerated. Together with the zippy metallic cover and simple text, divided into three short chapters, this book is a delight. Reading Fly Guy with my son is so enjoyable for us both. Finding interesting books for a new reader can be difficult. However, after we discovered the Fly Guy series, my son looked forward to reading each new one.

The stories and illustrations are just so funny and delightful. I would highly recommend the series for a family collection.

Reason for Reading: Ds read to me as his reader. Over Christmas I will have him reading some short and easy books as his mind is on other things at this time. Plus going back to some easy stuff will boost his confidence.

Our whole family loves Fly Guy! Ds has had some of the books read to him when he was younger, has read a few himself when he was struggling with this stage of reading and now read this one again with almost no problems. He was more interested in the pictures than the words which made it hard to focus on the reading. Fly Guy is hilarious and I recommend these early readers. Buzz has a pet fly who can speak a limited vocabulary. In this story Fly Guy goes to school with Buzz and makes friends with the lunch lady Roz, but Roz gets fired when the Boss finds flies in the kitchen. The new lunch lady, Mizz Muzz(le) is a terrible cook and Fly Guy inadvertently manages to get her fired too which brings the beloved Roz back who was a superb cook. Lots of fun, humorous and even a little gross at times. A wonderful easy reader, especially for boys.

My six year old son loved this book. He doesn't particularily like to read and the stories are usually rather dull for this level. He read the whole book himself and I didn't have to prod him to keep reading. We were laughing through the whole story.

My 5 year old & my 2 and half year just love this book. Good illustrations and a cute story including Roz the lunch lady. I highly recommend this book!

"Super Fly Guy" is a great early reader book. It's fun and silly while still remaining a reasonable read for about a level 3 reader. I also love "Hi Fly Guy" and "Shoo Fly Guy". I only wish I could find more books of this quality at this level.
