Review

"School Mobbing and Emotional Abuse addresses a national need faced by every child in school. It is very possible that a teacher who utilizes this material may save a child from both physical as well as psychological abuse and may ultimately save a child's life. This material is that powerful and that important..""
-Peter D. Blauvelt, President and CEO, National Alliance for Safe Schools
"Were you ever bullied, ganged up on, or picked on as a kid back in school? Sure, we all were. But today such attacks are taken a bit more seriously -- and rightly so, for they can easily turn deadly. As Gail states, 'Mobbing is terrorism.' The book deals with the issue from the perspective of all parties concerned -- the victim, the parents, the school staff, and even the perpetrator -- and it explains what each must do to resolve the situation. Part 1 of the book defines mobbing and its psychology, discusses school policies and how they can be improved, how people can help the victim, teaching dignity and respect to students, and the process of healing after a mobbing. Part 2 is a series of essays that can be used in the classroom to promote dignity, respect, insight, and awareness.."

Product Description

Mobbing is group bullying. It is 'ganging up' on someone using tactics of rumor, innuendo, discrediting, isolating, intimidating, and above all, making it look as if the targeted person is responsible. Though bullying has been prevalent in schools for many years, recent events involving the use of guns and other weapons at school show the desperate need to resolve these issues and make schools safe environments for children. Elliott explores why people, particularly children, take part in mobbing situations, and addresses how adults can teach children to have dignity and respect for themselves, which they will then extend to others.

Gail Pursell Elliott's "School Mobbing and Emotional Abuse" is so effective because it addresses the real cause of bullying. Once the heart of the problem is understood, Elliott then gives proven strategies that teach children not to engage in bullying behaviors. They gain a richer understanding of themselves and this leads to an acceptance and new-found tolerance of others. This book is important for anyone working with children and youth.

This review is from: School Mobbing and Emotional Abuse: See it - Stop it - Prevent it with Dignity and Respect (Paperback)
I love this book and its timely message for improving the quality of relationships in schools. In "School Mobbing and Emotional Abuse," Gail Pursell Elliott addresses the 800 pound gorilla in the classroom and the playground: disrepect, a lack of kindness and a silent killer of self-esteem and confidence.

As I read the book, I recalled some of the very painful experiences of disrespect I had as a school child - both in grade school and high school. Now an adult, I have had the grace to reclaim my own dignity - but with hard work, healthy companions and positive relationships.

In 2009, the issue of disrespect seems to have become even more common in society - in traffic, sports, neighborhoods. Seeing it - stopping it- preventing it has only one answer - treasuring others with dignity and respect.

Every parent and teacher should read this book to make sure that their children grow up in an environment with love and kindness. Why let your kids suffer and grow up with negative consequences.

My wife and I create a nurturing atmosphere of words and actions in our home for our daughter. And she is becoming one of the brightest, most talented and confident kids one could ever hope for. Treating each unique person with dignity and respect. For a lifetime of happiness.
