Product Description

Product Description

It might be creepy, but entomology is one cool branch of science for kids! Bug Science is a funny, educational book filled with cool workshops that are ideal for science fairs. Sometimes it’s all about the bugs, like an experiment to reroute ants. Sometimes it’s about how we interact with bugs, like the workshop on spider phobias. You can even turn your friends into bug bait to see who has the sweetest skin.

Bug Science is peppered with sidebars from entomologists and is sure to inspire a new appreciation for the buggy world we live in.

About the Author

Karen Romano Young is very much a renaissance woman with interests as broad as the seven seas and as deep as the deepest trench in the deepest ocean, with a particular interest in anything oceanic. She is an author of many celebrated books for young readers, both fiction and nonfiction, some of which she also illustrated. Her interest in science experiments are an outgrowth of many successive years of science fair projects with her children. Karen and her family live in Connecticut.

4.0 out of 5 stars The tricky part is obtaining the bugs -- alive, May 17 2012
By M. Heiss - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Science Fair Winners: Bug Science (Library Binding)
We have done a few of these experiments just for household fun. The ideas in the book are explained well, with colors behind the text and a good list of supplies. We have become much more aware of the bugs in our environment. Living in the desert gives us a near-constant supply of crickets in our garage. Crickets are good. All our native ants are vicious biters, and I have actually given some consideration to ordering ants... but then we find something else to do with the crickets. We also have plenty of butterflies and spiders.

These ideas are very interesting. This book can be a springboard to other great science ideas.

5.0 out of 5 stars An invaluable resource for home and school, Nov 30 2009
By Lisa Barker - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Science Fair Winners: Bug Science (Paperback)
Just like Science Fair Winners: Crime Scene Science, this book is filled with idea after idea for your science fair project. Study the world of creepy crawlies and build your project around a bug or phobia. Each chapter focuses on a workshop/project with easy to follow instructions, suggestions and questions to prompt experimentation and discovery. I give this five (Amazon) stars because it's an invaluable resource for home and school.
