Five Stars For The Series, 3 Stars for Anything Less Than A Season Set, Mar 9 2011
By Reconnecting To My Childhood "Time Won't Let ... - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated: Season 1 V.2 (DVD)
The newest Scooby series is a divisive interpretation as it attempts to do something new. This newest version of our old pal Scoob goes back to the old mystery solving formula with some new additions that some fans are pleased with and others are not. If you haven't seen it you can easily find it online for a preview or watch it on cartoon network/teletoon when it airs to see if you enjoy it.
I personally do enjoy the series. The artistic style may be a departure from what we're used to but the show is well animated. They have changed the character dynamic a bit by creating relationships between Fred and Daphne and Shaggy and Velma but I can't blame them for trying something new. I will also say how easily I adpated to Mathew Lillard as the new animated voice of Shaggy after Casey Kasem has retired.
The one thing for me is that I don't feel all the mysteries are quite up to par, though some are quite good so it balances a bit. Aside from all that I miss the Shaggy Scooby moments that are unarguably not as frequent in this series as they were in the past.
So all that said those who enjoy the show may want to purchase this volume 2 release, it contains the following episodes:
Episode 5: The Song of Mystery
The children of Crystal Cove are being turned into monsters by a creature named Que Horrifico, scaring all of the adults in town. As a result, they abandon their children and run for their lives.
Episode 6: The Legend of Alice May
Fred becomes the target of a high school crush when new girl Alice May falls for him. However, Alice May is actually a ghost with a reputation for taking guys with her and making them disappear forever.
Episode 7: In Fear of the Phantom
The Hex Girls come to Crystal Cove and plan to give the gang a concert. But things go awry when The Phantom, an evil specter, suddenly appears with the intention of permanently taking The Hex Girls out of the music business.
Episode 8: The Grasp of the Gnome
The gang attends the Royal Knights Faire in Crystal Cove, but so does an unexpected guest. A scary-looking gnome is paralyzing everyone wearing pirate costumes at the Faire.
A decent four episodes from the series, I particularly enjoy the first three on this release and it was nice to see the Hex Girls again. That said, I personally will not be buying this or the Volume 1,Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated: Season 1 V.1, release as I feel it is a cheap marketing tactic. They get parents and some unaware fans to pay for only four episodes at a time and then later wind up releasing season sets after the volumes have already raked in preliminary cash. I wish they would stop these volume releases and focus on preparing a season set (they could at least release the first 13 episodes together at this point).
An additional note, I find Scooby releases are quite often only geared at children. Scooby has been around since 1969 and has many older fans who would enjoy more in depth special featues such as a behind the scenes look at the creation and direction of the new series as well as some possible commentaries. Hopefully an eventual season set will have these things for once. As for this release...
Recommended for those who just want the episodes now or perhaps for parents, but true fans (and money conscious ones) will want to wait for a season set. Thanks

Yay for New Scooby Doo!, May 27 2011

These are the new - from 2010 & 2011 episodes of the Scooby-Doo Mystery, Inc. TV series. This is the 2nd disc for the season. It has 4 episodes - which will get pretty dared pricey to buy the entire season at $9 - $11 per disc, however, it is comparable to buying the digital copies from I-Tunes.
The episodes on this disc are:
The Song of Mystery
The Legend of Alice May
In Fear of The Phantom
The Grasp of The Gnome
My daughter is a HUGE Scooby-Doo fan (she is 4) and has loved the newer movies - Witches Ghost, Abracadabra Doo, Zombie Island, Camp Scare, etc.
The TV Series has a few changes - and therefore some in-congruencies - the kids no longer live in Coolsville, they now live in Crystal Cove, and the character design has changed a bit, and there are new "romantic" dynamics between the kids, but it is still Classic Scooby-Doo style - and LOTS of fun!!!!
Overall I am enjoying the new series (even as an original Scooby fan!) and am happy with the quality of the production and transfer to DVD

A new twist on the old favorite, Jun 8 2011

Scooby Doo; Mystery Inc is an absolutely perfect twist on the original series. I love the way the way they've kept the characters the same and yet provided some interesting differences. And the mysteries are great, the background characters are hilarious. Plus the way that the adults try to handle the fact that their children are into solving the mysteries supporting the towns tourism revenue. A great series to introduce the new generation to Scooby Doo and a wonderful new look at a childhood favorite for fans of the original series. I just hope that they keep coming!!!
