Product Description

From Library Journal

Someone is going around Orlando, Florida incinerating people with a homemade flame thrower. Drawn into the affair by personal tragedy, Carver, ex-cop turned private eye, begins checking into the killings and soon learns that all evidence points to Paul Kave, the son of a very wealthy and influential man. Scorcher is a well- written, meticulously constructed, gripping tale and a worthy successor to Tropical Heat (1986), in which Carver made his first appearance. JV

Book Description

Scorcher, the fourth book in a series that includes Tropical Heat, Flame and Kiss, again features Florida private detective Fred Carver. A serial killer is on the loose, a maniac wielding a homemade flame thrower fashioned from a scuba tank. He has murdered three people - and one of them is Carver's eight-year-old son. Carver will do anything to find his son's killer and exact a father's revenge. All clues point to the brilliant schizophrenic son of one of Florida's wealthiest families, and when the suspect goes on the run, Carver sets out to hunt him down. A gripping story of long-buried secrets and burning hate, Scorcher is a taut, explosive and thoroughly unforgettable mystery. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars FLORIDA FIRE, Sep 15 2004
By Michael Butts - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Scorcher (Hardcover)
SCORCHER, the second in the Fred Carver series, is a dynamite thriller, replete with unexpected plot twists and excellently visualized characters.

Someone is killing people with a flamethrower, fashioned from a scuba diving tank. One of the victims is Fred's five year old son, Chipper. This horrible act leads Carver on a vengeance crusade. All evidence points to the schizophrenic son of a wealthy hot dog restaurant magnate. Carver insinuates his way into the investigation, and finds the Kave family has a lot of secrets. Carver's relentless pursuit for the truth--and vengeance---is detailed in great action and expository segments. A totally engaging and enjoyable novel. Look forward to reading more Carver stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lutz gets HOT again, July 3 2000
By barbie - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Scorcher (Audio Cassette)
John Lutz, who is known for well developed characters and his 'sit on the edge of your seat' suspense, has done it again. He tells the story of a serial killer who wields a homemade flame thrower fashioned from a scuba tank.

This crazed killer made the mistake of killing the son of Florida private detective Fred Carver. All of the clues point to the brilliant schizophrenic son of one Florida's wealthiest families, and when the suspect goes on the run, Carver sets out to bring him to justice dead or alive. Scorcher is an explosive, thoroughly unforgettable mystery that will leave you wanting more.
