4.0 out of 5 stars Another Strong Effort From Craig Richey Feb. 29 2012
By Kaya Savas - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I was first introduced to Craig Richey's music with his score to Wonderful World; a score that was sadly overlooked. His score to the film was so beautiful and engrossing that I was shocked at the tiny bursts of greatness I found within the music. For Answers To Nothing Richey continues that excellent execution and craftsmanship we heard in Wonderful World. The soundtrack while composed of mainly short cues still molds together to craft an emotionally satisfying experience.

I think a lot of people have a certain expected sound for indie scores. Most indie scores aren't with huge orchestras or sweeping arrangements, but I don't think I've ever said to myself "ah typical indie score". While Answers To Nothing is a guitar based score peppered with piano and other instruments I don't think the impact lessens because of that. The score is intimate and builds a certain emotional state. There is a touch of emptiness and loneliness behind the music. Richey uses air absent of sound just as effectively as when the notes hit. The pacing and mood created is there, and you feel every bit of it. The score sort of reminds me of The Pledge by Hans Zimmer & Klaus Badelt even though the style and approach are very different. I just felt the same state of mind while listening to this score. It's a great journey to take on a quiet evening while doing some busy work or while reading.

Craig Richey is an extremely talented, under appreciated and overlooked composer. The soundtrack features a handful of songs as well and they are woven into the soundscape with the score successfully. This is a very contemplative score that accentuates emptiness in human life. It makes you think and absorbs you into the story. This is not a complex score and that is why it succeeds. It never tries to do too much, but in its subtlety works wonders. A great score once again from Craig Richey.
