If you are interrested in Darfur, please read the book "Scramble For Africa: Darfur-Intervention and the USA" It is a honest, well researched, though equally scathing and shocking look at the humanitarian crisis in Darfur. Ever since 2001 when I met refugees from the crisis in Sudan, I've been searching for a truthful and complete account of the situation there. The Scramble for Africa explains it all. Steve Fake and Kevin Funk's meticulously researched and immensely readable account reveals the nightmarish situation in Sudan, the history behind it, and the critical role played by the outside world, primarily the United States. It is a must read for anyone interested in seeking a workable solution to the situation in Darfur and wanting to understand the enigmatic and often contradictory response of our government. Without this sort of deeply informed background into Washington's ongoing relationship with Khartoum,it is impossible to take actions that have any hope of success. It is a courageous and clear-eyed look at our foreign policy and humanitarian assistance.
