Product Description

From Amazon.co.uk

Enigma, the Romanian musician, Michael Cretu and friends will never win any prizes for invention. The music of his fourth album adheres firmly to the blueprint of his other releases: mini-pop symphonies. This is a small-screen scrawl that takes in classical musical samples in the style of Gregorian chants and Wagner-style pomp and circumstance and MOR vocals which recall Celine Dion and Phil Collins, provided by Ruth Ann Boyle of Olive, Cretu's wife, Sandra and Andru Donalds. Bedded down to ambient's lack of beats and coloured by pop's sense of fun, there are no obvious hits on the very smooth and moody, The Screen Behind the Mirror. However there is a certain guilty pleasure in kicking back after dinner and floating down stream to the almost funky "Push out the Limits" and the bombastic slab of Euro-pop that is "Traces(Light and Weight)". --Olivia Ferenczi

Chronique amazon.fr

--Olivia Ferenczi

3.0 out of 5 stars Enigma Bombs, Jan 24 2000
By
S. Schell (Mason, OH United States) - See all my reviews
I have been a die-hard Enigma fan for the past five or six years. I have loved every album they've released, but I was let down when I listened to this one, and I made the mistake of buying without listening. Ruth-Ann from Olive is a welcome addition to their sound, but Michael Cretu's dog-whistle, Euro-pop voice is a terrible distraction. I've never heard Enigma tunes this loud, or ANNOYING, for that matter. They've lost the soothing, dream-like quality I've come to love and replaced it with old-hash, nightclub music that is played and never payed attention to. While there are pleasant tracks on this CD, it's not one where I can let it play all the way through without it grating my nerves at some point. As for a fellow reviewer on this page, I do agree with you that Cretu should keep his mouth shut around the microphones and stick to producing. If you're not one that's particularly prejudice and is ready for a change in Enigma, purchase this CD. If not, consider this a fair warning for disappointment.

5.0 out of 5 stars explosive, Feb 3 2007
By
Kaes Ali (Toronto-Canada) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
To start I am an Enigma fan, so Appologies if you might find this biased...but one can't deny it, this IS a great one...

An explosive start takes loadly and qickly into a different mood, the music is so energetic, yet it is not like any techno or DJ stuff that makes you wondering whats going on guys?...

One thing which is possibly what makes them so distinctive and follows their name "Enigma" is the lyrics, I mean yes you want to be enigmatic mystic etc...but the lyrics are kind of too much of that stuff...you sometimes get really turned off...probably if they do something about it...

Definitely a must have for those who admire high quality music...worth every penny...

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!, July 3 2004
By A Customer
I think this is one of, if not the best, album by Enigma. The songs have such a smooth flow, that if you start with the first you cannot stop until "Silence must be heard" finishes! Good job Michael!
