Only the bare basics April 11 2011
By David B. Gilmore - Published on
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I was looking for an up to date publication on Scribus to use for training my staff.
I found this product to be very narrow in substance and slanted more toward producing a book and very little else.
The price for this book is way out of line when compared with other like publications. $15-$20 USD would be more appropriate.
I could recommend it as an addendum or chapter addition to another book but not as a stand alone.
On a positive note, the graphic screen shots were very nice.

Using Free Scribus Software to Create Professional Presentations July 10 2011
By Kym Kirk - Published on
Format: Paperback
The book Using Free Scribus Software to Create Professional Presentations delivers on its promise. This book is very detailed and takes you through the process of developing a profession book design cover in one sitting. The easy to follow step by step instructions take you from being a novice to achieving results in no time at all.

I found the examples of each step very helpful including the links to the various software that compliments the program.

The book itself is only 69 pages. Once you download and setup the free software, Alice and Gang Chen have you following the examples in their book to achieve exactly the same outcomes with your book design.

To sum up - I found the book easy to understand and expertly written.

Not Worth the Price Oct. 29 2013

56 pages of information - addresses one thing - creating a cover. Does not get into how to use Scribus Software to any degree.

I am very impressed with the work the author has done using the Scribus. I have not finished it yet, but so far, I could follow the instruction pretty well, and I consider myself not very competent in computer.. a little expensive but worth it.

You have two good choices:

Read this book and learn the easy way what you need to do to create your own design.

Or read this book and decide to pay someone else to do it for you.

Either way, with this Scribus primer in hand, you win.
