Seagate Barracuda Hard Drives

The Power of One

Barracuda hard drives from Seagate give you with the Power of One. One terabyte per disc technology. One drive platform for every capacity need and every desktop storage application. One hard drive qualification effort. One hard drive platform to choose from. One hard drive with trusted performance, reliability, and simplicity to deliver the lowest total cost of ownership.

You no longer need to choose between low power drives, mainstream drives, or performance drives. One hard drive with 7200RPM performance and capacity points from 250GB to 3TB makes it easier than ever to choose the right drive for any need.

The Size and Performance You Want
The Size and Performance You Want

You get more bang for your buck with 1TB per disc technology. Increasing the capacity per disc means the highest capacity drives like 1TB, 2TB and 3TB become more affordable, needing fewer discs to meet your capacity needs.

Your drive is up to 45% faster than the last generation thanks to Seagate OptiCache technology. OptiCache technology combines the latest advances in hard drive microprocessors, DRAM, and proprietary caching algorithms resulting in great performance improvements for you.

No-Hassle Transition to 4K Technology
No-Hassle Transition to 4K Technology

You don't have worry about the transition to Advanced Format 4K technology with Seagate SmartAlign technology. With SmartAlign, 4K drives look and act just like legacy 512 byte sector hard drives which makes your adoption of Advanced Format simple.

Maximizes Hard Drive Storage Densities
Maximizes Hard Drive Storage Densities

You get reliable read/write performance even in tough operating environments with Seagate AcuTrac technology. AcuTrac represents new advanced hard drive technology that can accurately control reading and writing on these "nano-sized" tracks spinning at 7200 RPM, even in high-touch environments, such as an all-in-one PC with loud music booming through the speakers.

Proven Quality and Performance
Proven Quality and Performance

Barracuda has become the world's most popular family of hard drives with consistent quality and performance-enhancing innovations and features like native command queuing and perpendicular recording. Additionally, the legendary family of Barracuda desktop hard drives is produced using the most sophisticated manufacturing process in the industry, with a focus on environmental stewardship.

Go Beyond 2TB with DiscWizard Software
Go Beyond 2TB with DiscWizard Software

The sure way to get native access to hard drives bigger than 2TB is to adopt the new BIOS standard called UEFI. If you're not there yet, Seagate has an alternative. You can now use Barracuda 3TB hard drives even using legacy PC BIOS, or Windows XP with free DiscWizard software. The free DiscWizard software allows you to configure your system to access a 3TB drive, even on legacy PC BIOS systems or Windows XP. It's a safer, more cost-effective solution for installing 3TB hard drives.

Green Where it Counts
Green Where it Counts

Barracuda 1TB-per-disk hard drives now have advanced power modes to save more energy while in idle states--without sacrificing performance. Produced using the most sophisticated manufacturing process in the industry, with a focus on environmental stewardship, Barracuda drives comply with the RoHS directive on hazardous materials and voluntarily restrict halogen compounds. Plus, 70% or more of the materials used to build Barracuda drives are recyclable

Just to let those having issues with not recognizing the full 3TB, that's because Windows, by default, will format the drive using an MBR (Master Boot Record) partition table - this type of partition is limited to only being to handle up to 2TB. You need to format the driver as a GPT (GUID Partition Table) and the 3TB will be recognized.

I had the same issue with these - it's not an issue with the HDD itself, but with the formatting that Windows (and probably other OS's) use.

Drive exactly as stated. no problems. Would have been nice to know that no cables come with the drive. If I didn't have others lying around I would have been upset to have to wait for a cable to be shipped. All in all I don't think I saved any money by buying through Amazon after shipping and taxes.

This is the first time I've gone with a Seagate drive, and quite possibly my last. This is one of the newest hard drives I own and the quickest to start failing. It's running along several Western Digital drives and some older Samsung ones. I've only owned it for a little over a year or so and now I have to pay to ship it back. Disappointed : \

I always use these drives because of the price, even though the reliability is questionable. They're absolutely the most economical drive for RAID configurations, although I would never trust them in single drive configurations where your data dependeds on them. But you should never trust any hard drive with your data anyway, always keep backups, even if you use RAID.

I've picked up 6 of these over the last few years. One failure, and the replacement is still running fine in my 5-drive RAID 6 array. (Linux MD software RAID)

I installed this drive in my 2007 iMac when the original 320GB disc failed - it made a huge difference to the performance and I'm very pleased with the result. The drive is also quieter than the original, which was an unexpected extra.

Awesome and cheap HDD for a RAID setup.
(Note: This is a Samsung spinpoint F1 rebranded Seagate)

Grabbed two of these for a cheap experiment RAID0 setup. The intended use was for CAD files which contain large assemblies(Gb large) and a game root. Performance is great for both uses. For the space and price you get relatively close SSD performance at a huge advantage, you can add more drives to the array.

Have an older Samsung version of this drive and it's running 2 years strong.

I ended up with
350 Mb/s writes
500 Mb/s reads
1.5+ Gb/s bursts

System specs:

2011 x64
i7-3820
16gb ddr3
2xSSD (Crucial,Samsung)
2xHDD (Samsung)
2xHDD RAID0 (Seagate/Samsung)
2x660TiOC

I have 5 of these drives in my server. The performance of these drives is satisfactory for my purposes and superior to WD Green drives which are horribly slow. These drives WILL fail prematurely based on my personal experience with them. All drives eventually fail however Seagate drives seem to fail early in my opinion. Just about every single Seagate drive I have, has failed within 1 year of initial power up (these drives are spinning 24/7). Some sooner, some later. Compare this to the 3 WD drives I have that are going on 5+ years without even a SMART hint of failure.

Why do I continue to purchase Seagate drives??? Because the cost is so low by comparison and Seagate support and warranty is awesome! I duplicate everything on my server to prevent data loss. Every drive that I have had that has failed, has been replaced by Seagate without any issues. Even drives that are in S.M.A.R.T prefail have been replaced without any problem. You can even choose to get an advanced replacement and return shipping prepaid for $10 and be back up and running in a couple of days!! This is superior after sale support to other hard drive manufactures that I have had to deal with.

Yes, Seagate have an occasionnal bad batch ... just like other brands. But in general, their drives work very well and usually last many years. The drive runs smooth and quiet. So far, had no problems with it. A pair of these Barracuda 3 TB SATA drives were installed in a Synology NAS system. Very satisfied and highly recommend these drives.
