As with most Adult Swim programming from Cartoon Network, viewers will either "get" Sealab 2021, or find its kitchen-sink loopiness indigestible, but one has to admire the producers' ability to spin this recycled footage into the most outlandish plots with such regularity. Said producers (co-creators Adam Reed and Matt Thompson) are present on some freewheeling commentary tracks for all 13 episodes in the set, though viewers hoping for some insight into the show might find the chatter mostly dispensable; however, the inclusion of a rough cut of "Ronnie," the series' only unaired episode, more than makes up for the commentaries, as do hilarious interviews with the cast (which includes Erik Estrada and Brett Butler), and a tour of the production company, both of which are dominated by girls in bikinis (who also give a read-through of the script for "Der Dieb"). The sole sober note on the set is struck by an affectionate tribute to voice-over legend Harry Goz, who provided the voice for the addled Captain Murphy before passing away in 2003. It's rare for a DVD's supplemental extra to match the same tone as the main feature, but the season 2 set manages to stay nearly 100% Bizarro from start to finish. --Paul Gaita

Finally it has come,

This review is from: Sealab 2021: Season 2 (DVD)
After getting hooked on the first season i was over joyed when I learned that season 2 was dropping Feb 1. I bought it that day. After finally getting past the very funny BRAK SHOW i saw this set. I must say that it has it moments buy i really found season 1 way funnier. It is still worth it if your looking for a cheap laugh this is worth the money. For those who do not know, Sealab 2021 is just old clips from sealab 2020 (from the sixties) and cut and pasted together then re-dubbed to make pointless adventures and hillarous run ins with the crew and their crazy Captian Murhpy.

One word for this DVD: BIZARRO!,
By Adrian Wheeler "nachomansv" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Sealab 2021: Season 2 (DVD)
I've loved this show the first time it I saw it late one sunday night. The adult humor and quirkyness make Sealab 2021 a definate standout. The lack of decent animation actually makes these short cartoons ten times better. When you hear the characters speak in extreme and emotional tones only to be portrayed with about 5 different facial expressions and only about 3 total body postures, it makes it all the more hilarious. The BIZARRO episode by itself is worth the price of this DVD. I own season 1 which is in constant rotation with my other DVD's. The genious writting will have you and your friends quoting all of Captian murphy's insane lines. Sparks, the introverted and psychiotic eyes and ears of Sealab has gotta be my favoirte character. I just wish I didn't have to wait so long for this. If you love Aqua Teen Hunger Force or Space Ghost, this cartoon is perfect for you. "look turtle face, Star Wars!"

This is one great, hilarious show that everyone with a sense of humor will enjoy from beginning to end. Well the Season 1 dvd set contained 2 episodes from season 2, but yet this is called Season 2. My guess is there just gonna contain some epsiodes from Season 3 in this set. And its only 145 minutes long.EPISODES: Der Dieb Policy Hail Squishface Bizzaro Legend of Baggy Pants Tinfins 7211 Feats of Alvis Brainswitch Vacation Fuse Box Article 4 Return to Oblivion 9 of 10 people found the following review helpful

An Improvement, of course.,

This review is from: Sealab 2021: Season 2 (DVD)
As far as content goes, I find that this 2nd season DVD of Sealab is much better than the first, as far as packages go. It almost seemed like with the first set of DVDs, sales were not expected to warrant anything more than just the episodes, with no extras at all.Indeed, there are commentary tracks on all of the episodes. However, 70/30 only try to do a real commentary for a few episodes before they become bored and just record themselves entertaining themselves. They shoot skeet, they play computer games, they play air hockey, they bowl; and it's funny. But if you're looking for a lot of insight into the show, you're not going to find too much. The tribute to Harry Goz is the closest thing you're going to find on this DVD set to a 'real' extra, in that it's the only 'serious' extra. And thank christ for that. The 20 questions with the cast segment is also quite fun, but it only features four cast members. And if you like strippers, you'll like the 2nd disk. I say, this is a solid buy for a regular Sealab fan, and a Must for the Sealab Afficionado. Wait til you get to the Comic Book Commentary. Excellent. |
