Product Description

From the Back Cover

When worlds collide, can the truth set two young women free?

As a child caught up in a crisis, Lainey O'Toole made a split-second decision with far-reaching effects. Fifteen years later, when her car breaks down in Stoney Ridge--the very town in which that decision was made--she is forced to face the past and discover how her decision has impacted so many.

Bess Reihl is less than thrilled to be spending the summer at Rose Hill Farm helping her intimidating grandmother Bertha recover from surgery. It doesn't take long for Bess to realize that her grandmother coaxed her to Stoney Ridge for an entirely different reason. But once Bess meets hired hand Billy Lapp, the summer starts to hold some promise.

Lainey's and Bess's worlds are about to collide and the secrets that come to light will shock them both.

Beautifully written, The Search is a skillfully woven story that takes you through unexpected twists and turns on the long country road toward truth. Immerse yourself in this heartwarming--and surprising--tale of young love, forgiveness, and healing.

Synopsis:

Jonah Riehl has been trying his best to raise his daughter on his own. Living in an Amish community in Ohio, Jonah strives to raise an obedient daughter. One who would serve the Lord before all else. Life has been anything but easy. One terrible night, a buggy accident changed his life forever. His wife, Rebecca was killed, he was gravely injured but miraculously their infant daughter was unhurt. Wrapped in a blanket, little Bess comforted her mother in her final moments. Bess gave her father the strength and determination to persevere. Jonah has been finding it increasingly difficult as a single parent, but Jonah is reluctant to remarry. His heart still remains with his wife, and together Bess and him will survive. When Jonah's mother writes to request that Bess spend the summer with her, to help her recover from 'woman surgery' Jonah encourages Bess to remain with him. When it's evident that her report card will be arriving shortly, and her algebra exam did not go as planned, Bess decides to go to Rose Hill Farm. Bess is a little reluctant, her grandmother is a little rough around the edges, but she knows duty is essential in the Amish community. When Bess arrives at Rose Hill Farm she quickly realizes that her grandmother's surgery was nothing more than teeth extraction. Although she is baffled that her grandmother would fabricate an issue to get her to come to visit, she is quickly smitten by her grandmothers hired hand. Billy is handsome, intelligent, and everything Bess believes she wants in a man. While Bess is settling in at Rose Hill Farm, Lainey O'Toole deals with some issues of her own.

Search, The: A Novel

The Search is a quiet little charmer of a book. A romantic story set in Amish country, The Search is part three in the Lancaster County Secrets series of women's Christian romance novels. This story centres around two young women, one named Bess and the other Lainey O'Toole. At first it is unclear what the two women might have in common and how their stories are intertwined. Bess is the grandaughter of Bertha Riehl, and she is sent for the summer to Pennsylvania to help care for her grandmother after some surgery has left Bertha in need. Well, the surgery turns out to have been a bit of a stretch and the grandmother, a bit of a scheming puppet-master. Bertha is a comical character who Bess learns to love over the course of the summer. Bess and Bertha and the farmhand Billy will all work together throughout the summer at Rose Hill farm, living off the land and learning how to grow roses. The roses, of course, are a metaphor for the characters within the book, some blooming like Bess, others slowly withering like Simon and Bertha and, yet another group still twinning together like the hybrids Billy has learned to graft into new variations on the traditional flower. Throughout the summer Bertha mischieviously tells Bess she must teach her how to drive a car and repeatedly "borrows" a police car to give her lessons. When Bertha manages to get herself and Bess thrown into jail, her son Jonah must return home. Thus Bertha successfully orchestrates the return of her son Jonah, Bess's father. Lainey O'Toole has remained in Stoney Ridge following some car troubles.

The Search

By Suzanne Woods Fisher

Once again, Suzanne outdid herself!! It doesn't seem possible, but each of her books seems even better than the last- but, that can' t be, I absolutely LOVE each and every one!!

Suzanne's ability to describe the characters (in such detail that you feel they are part of you) and portray the Amish faith so accurately , with such feeling, is outstanding.

The Search is the third in her series, Lancaster County Secrets, leaving one eagerly waiting to see what will happen in the next book.

Lainey O'Toole , now an adult, was once a child in crisis. Fifteen years after the fact, her car breaks down in Stoney Ridge, the very town in which she had made a split second decision that affected her own life and that of others. She is forced to face the past and discovers, while there, how it has impacted so many others.

Bess, a young girl, is NOT happy to have been sent to spend the summer with her grandmother at Rose Hill Farm, supposedly to help her recover from surgery. It does not take long for Bess to come to the conclusion that she was coaxed to this location for a totally different reason.. Bess' summer looks up , as she meets the hired hand, Billy. Maybe the summer won't be so bad!

The Grandmother, Bertha , is quite a character, who Suzanne makes come alive with humorous descriptions and antics. Along with the involvement of deep emotional challenges of everyone in the story, she adds the laughter and lightness that makes this book so different and enjoyable. Bess' s and Lainy's worlds are about to collide and secrets come out that shock them both, as well as the reader.
