March 27 - Toronto. The Four Seasons - I think we had all four here in Toronto in the past week. So perfect timing for sitting in my living room enjoying the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra both lull and excite me with the Vivaldi Four Season composition plus the Sinfonia in B minor and Concerto in B minor. What a beautiful package the CD comes in and thank you, Mr. Landon, for the explanatory notes. If you do not have a Tafelmusik cd this is a great one to start with. If you do not have The Four Seasons (or even if you do), I recomend this album above any other interpretation. Great orchestra and great recording. Do not pass this one up.

If you think you've heard all there is to hear in Vivaldi's Four Seasons because it's been recorded so often, think again. Talfelmusik's performance here is fresh and original. Jeanne Lamon's solo violin playing is excellent throughout. In particular her solo part in the first movement of "Spring" is more bird like than any performance I've heard.
Another inspired touch is the addition of the lute to the Baroque "rhythm section" throughout the Seasons. To my ear it adds an additional Italian touch to the interpretation. Whether you are looking for your first recording of The Four Seasons or already have ten this version is a must have.
But the biggest surprise for me in this CD was the Sinfonia titled "Al Santo Sepolcro"(At the Holy
Grave). This is an exquisitely beautiful piece of music, a real find. And beautifully performed.
