5.0 out of 5 stars A Teenage Readers Inspiration, Mar 31 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Second Game (Paperback)
The year was 1962, I was a teenager in High School, just beginning to have a desire to read. The first book, or short novel I picked up, and read from cover to cover was, "SECOND GAME" also known as "COSMIC CHECKMATE", written by Katherine McClean with Charles V. DeVet. At first it excited me, because I enjoyed playing Chess, and the cover of the book had a Chess theme on it. The story was very well paced, and was filled with enough intrigue to keep my attention, so that I read it every chance that I could. In fact I would day dream at times, thinking I was the character in the story. Up and down the stairs of the game, gaining more levels, more power and with it more rank. For more than thirty five years I've enjoyed remembering that first short novel, and the excitement it provided for me. To this day I would still like to have a copy for my bookshelves. I would consider this a Classic Short Novel to be read by anyone who enjoys Science Fiction from years past.
