If you're tired of Barney and cringe when you hear the name "Raffi", this may be what you need. Every kid I know who has heard this record loves it. And you won't mind hearing it over and over again! The Arkestra is heartfelt and goofily fun on every number. One reason Sun Ra performed these Disney songs was to create a "Shield of Beauty" for the planet. Now you can create a shield of sanity by treating the family to these familiar songs perfomed with Sun Ra's real magic.

Who woulda thought that Sun Ra could have so much fun. I was excited to see this recording. It is what you would think it is, just a fun tribute to disney. Nothing hard core or spacey here for the heavy listener, just another great Sun Ra experience. Ones that I can never have enough of in any form or style.

live fun from sun ra. March 31 2007
By fluffy, the human being. - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
first off, this cd is from a tape made by an audience member. so the sound quality is that of a bootleg, not a professional recording. if that sort of thing is important to you, then beware. personally, i dig the lo-fi sound here. it seems to suit this set: sun ra caught live in austria, on april 29, 1989, playing tunes from walt disney movies. the whole thing sounds like it was one heck of a fun time for the audience. i wish i had been there. "the forest of no return" sounds something like a tom waits performance from his freakier years. "frisco fog" is a powerful piece of big band swing, as is "i'm wishing," which runs over ten minutes in length. the highlights of this set, however, are "zip a dee doo dah," "high ho! high ho!," and "whistle while you work." these three rollicking performances are sheer joy. about as fun as music gets. i have a lot of mixed feelings about sun ra albums. love his swing music, mostly dislike the avant-garde stuff that i've heard. no mixed feelings about this album, though. wonderful stuff.

Holistic Art and Walt Disney Sept. 21 2008

The musical vision of Sun Ra during his brilliant career was of the holistic nature. Elements can be shaped from a variety of sources for an impressive canvas on stage or in the studio.

This unique live performance was recorded in Austria on April 29, 1989. The "bootleg" sound quality can be rough in parts, but the richness of the music is still retained. The cover art is an excellent introduction to this wonderful tribute to Walt Disney.

If a collector aims to having pristine audio, then this CD may be casually passed up. But this is an important puzzle piece to fully appreciate the creative genius of Sun Ra.

Strictly for Sun Ra Fans Sept. 17 2011
By Michael L. Rowland - Published on Amazon.com

While any CD's of Disney music as interpreted by various artists are welcome ....and I collect as many as I can find.....this CD is one of the lesser efforts. If you are a fan of Sun Ra's raucous experimental arrangements you will probably enjoy this. If not, you will find it merely annoying.
