5.0 out of 5 stars Great for young and old alike May 7 2003
Format:Audio CD
If you're tired of Barney and cringe when you hear the name "Raffi", this may be what you need. Every kid I know who has heard this record loves it. And you won't mind hearing it over and over again! The Arkestra is heartfelt and goofily fun on every number. One reason Sun Ra performed these Disney songs was to create a "Shield of Beauty" for the planet. Now you can create a shield of sanity by treating the family to these familiar songs perfomed with Sun Ra's real magic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Now this is FUN SUN RA Aug 28 2000
Format:Audio CD
Who woulda thought that Sun Ra could have so much fun. I was excited to see this recording. It is what you would think it is, just a fun tribute to disney. Nothing hard core or spacey here for the heavy listener, just another great Sun Ra experience. Ones that I can never have enough of in any form or style.

4.0 out of 5 stars live fun from sun ra. Mar 31 2007

first off, this cd is from a tape made by an audience member. so the sound quality is that of a bootleg, not a professional recording. if that sort of thing is important to you, then beware. personally, i dig the lo-fi sound here. it seems to suit this set: sun ra caught live in austria, on april 29, 1989, playing tunes from walt disney movies. the whole thing sounds like it was one heck of a fun time for the audience. i wish i had been there. "the forest of no return" sounds something like a tom waits performance from his freakier years. "frisco fog" is a powerful piece of big band swing, as is "i'm wishing," which runs over ten minutes in length. the highlights of this set, however, are "zip a dee doo dah," "high ho! high ho!," and "whistle while you work." these three rollicking performances are sheer joy. about as fun as music gets. i have a lot of mixed feelings about sun ra albums. love his swing music, mostly dislike the avant-garde stuff that i've heard. no mixed feelings about this album, though. wonderful stuff.
