Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

Set in 1880s Arizona Territory, the final installment in Miller's McKettrick Cowboys trilogy (High Country Bride; Shotgun Bride) finds the short-tempered McKettrick brothers still squabbling and still vying for ownership of the Triple M ranch, which their father, Angus, will give to the first son who marries and provides him with a grandchild. For youngest son, Jeb, the ranch is the one thing in the world that he holds most dear, so with both his older brothers already wed, Jed needs to move it or lose it. A quick marriage to schoolteacher Chloe Wakefield gets him in the race, but when he hears that his new bride already has a husband, he hightails it back to the ranch instead of sticking around to learn the truth. But Chloe, reputation in shreds, isn't about to go down without a fight. The romance between Jeb and Chloe runs lukewarm, but Miller succeeds in drawing a compelling picture of 19th-century ranch life populated with flawed but genuinely likable characters. Prose as bright as moonlight on the prairie keeps the pages turning, and a perfect, if highly improbable, ending ties things up nicely. Still, the story has an unfinished feel, leaving readers to wonder if a spinoff involving Angus's long-lost son Luke and his daughter, Lizzy, is in the works.

5.0 out of 5 stars My first western was really good..., Jun 30 2005
By Nicole Wagner - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Secondhand Bride (Mass Market Paperback)
Jeb McKettrick is a wild one who never kept out of trouble. The story opens as he is running, literally, from one such example, a fiery heroine named Chloe. Chloe catches him between the bulkhouse and a pile of manure surrounded by angry chickens and the story explodes into action. We discover that the beautiful Chloe is actually Jeb's wife who was abandoned after one hour of marriage, discarded hastily once Jeb discovered she was already married. Chloe argued that he was her only husband and if he would just listen he would understand....but he is a man.

Generally I am a Regency only kind of gal, but I was desperate for something to read and this was sold in the hospital gift shop. Somehow this book was meant for me because I thought it was splendid. The cast of characters was so rich, I want to read the whole series. A definite good buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Perfect Weekend Read, July 17 2006
By Heather - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Secondhand Bride (Mass Market Paperback)
This was the perfect story for curling up on the sofa with a cozy blanket, and a sleeping cat or dog at your side. Jeb and Chloe's story was heartwarming.

I enjoyed that their story began after things between Jeb and Chloe had already become very developed. I felt as though I was thrust right into the story from the very beginning, and couldn't put it down for very long until the last page. Jeb and Chloe are head strong, yet you can't help but fall in love with them.

I'm looking forward to reading the other novels in this series. And I'm hoping that I will get a change to read Holt's story as well. He's such an interesting character, I think his would be a wounderful tale.

SECONDHAND BRIDE is the third book in the McKettrick Cowboy's series and it's a winner! Be sure to start the series with HIGH COUNTRY BRIDE, then SHOTGUN BRIDE, then SECONDHAND BRIDE and end with MCKETTRICK'S CHOICE!
