Product Description

It was 1965 when American audiences first welcomed handsome secret agent John Drake (Patrick McGoohan of The Prisoner) into their homes as CBS ran the unique spy series known as Secret Agent. Wielding brains and a moral outlook instead of weapons, Drake traveled to the corners of the globe on the trail of international criminals, corrupt politicians, and stolen secrets.

Now, all 86 episodes from John Drake's entire crime-solving career are available together on DVD. Each episode of this exciting spy thriller is presented in the original broadcast order, from the original season that aired only in the U.K. as Danger Man to the 47 episodes of Secret Agent that were seen internationally, including the two color episodes that provided a vivid finale to the long-running suspense thriller.

I pre-ordered the Complete Collection(18DVD) and received it shortly after it was released. I have already watched all the episodes twice and I am now in my third round to the great desperation of my wife, teenager son and daughter. They do not see why that series is so great, very well done and acted when compared what you get in our days. For them it is something that belong to the far past. Of course, I disagree with them. The packaging of the series is simply outstanding. The image and sound quality is excellent. I have to say that I prefer Danger Man to Mission Impossible two first seasons now available on DVD. I highly recommend that series to anyone that would to watch a TV shows of excellent quality. Note that the 1959-1960 set of episodes are 25 minutes long and the 1965 to 1967 episodes are about 50 minutes long. Today the available shows are barely 40 minutes long and we get between 16 to 20 shows a year. In those days there were more shows per year.

The series first came out as a half hour series and then later on as a hour series. These are the original productions, featured here just as they were on TV. Ed Astley composed the music for both the half hour and hour series. The half hour and hour themes and soundtracks were quite different. I enjoy them both. Both the half hour and hour series soundtracks are now available on CD. The original half hour series was called Dangerman. The hour long series was called Dangerman in England and here in Canada. In the USA the series was called Secret Agent with the added Johnny Rivers song,'Secret Agent.' A&E has done us a fantastic service by releasing this excellent series. In my opinion the Dangerman series is one of the best TV productions ever. The Saint was also released on two occasions. In the early 1960's the first Saint series was released in black and white. In the mid sixties the series again returned with colour productions. A&E has released the entire colour series but only part of the black and white series. I hope they release the whole black and white series. It would make an excellent addition to this successful period in British television

Before the mind-boggling yet amazing series The Prisoner, Patrick McGoohan lead Danger Man (Secret Agent in North America beginning with Season 2) through 4 long seasons of mystery and intrigue. All 86 episodes of the full run are included in this package, which includes the two colour episodes which comprise season 4. Follow John Drake as he battles international crime to... perhaps become a Prisoner in an unknown location? Who knows, but even without the possible connection the McGoohan's next masterpiece, this series can stand on its own.

The audio and video quality of the Secret Agent/Danger Man megaset is outstanding and A&E home video should be commended for their efforts. The Black & White video transfer contains some minor blemishes here and there, but overall the picture quality is excellent. The 2.0 sound is clear and consistent throughout the episodes. This set consists of 18 single sided discs in individual slim cases with great artwork, packaging and detail. You get every episode of the Secret Agent/Danger Man series in broadcast order, including the two final episodes of the show in color. If you like "James Bond" and "Simon Templar" than John Drake as Secret Agent/Danger Man may be for you.
