My 8 year old son wanted to leave his comments on this book, as it is the first book in this series that he read by himself. So, here are his (8 year old) words....
"I liked this book, but I think it needs a little more action, because boys who read it like action and pizazz. I've been reading a lot of the Jack Stalwart series and I really enjoy them all. But I would like to see the author add in more characters that are in each book. I think it would make the book more dramatic and add action if there were more characters.
My favourite part was when they were on the roof at the very end and Jack was saving Ling with his pocket copter."
He read through it quickly and can't wait until the next one in the series comes. As a mom, I'm just happy he's found something to make him want to read. These books are well written and appropriate for my son's age group, however we were reading them together (I was reading to him) when he was only 6 and he was able to enjoy the stories then. As for his comment about more action, I suspect that it was enough when he was 6, but now he's looking for a little more conflict at nearly 9 years old. I guess I'll be looking for more complex stories for him to sink his teeth into, but these are still great 'light' reading for him.
