1.0 out of 5 stars Good potential... nose dive from there... July 28 2009
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I read Jude Deveraux's books as a guilty pleasure and without any huge expectations. I was excited to read it, as it looked like it had some potential, but soon was lost in all the complicated and unnecessary plotlines. She had far too many things going on (Cassie's early relationship with Jeff, Jeff's role in the CIA, Althea's history and current problems, that weird plotline with Charles and on and on). I dragged myself through the second half - and to be honest, basically skimmed the last couple of chapters, just to finish the darn thing!

If you want a guilty, summer-read...look someplace else! This one is far too convulted and poorly written! It's times like these that I wish I were an editor!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Got dizzy! April 25 2009
By gladz27
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I would personally like to rate this as 1, but due to my loyalty, i decided to stick as close to neutral as possible without being overly biased...

it started out great...i kinda liked the idea that the heroine was being ignored by the man she loved even though she's right under her nose, but then, all these characters come up one by one and i began to get confused about who was who and what their parts where...

It was a long read for me, i didn't quite like it and how the characters ended up together was a little too abrupt and anti-climactic than what I would have liked...

The best part i liked was when she went out with another guy and her boss got jealous...

Still... Velvet Series and A Knight in Shining Armor hold my heart...

This was not the greatest book, perhaps i'll try to read it again one day, but only after i've finished with everything...

P.S.
I'm writing this two weeks after i read the book, i can't really remember the names now...

1.0 out of 5 stars Should have been kept a secret! May 3 2008
By Ginny, not Hermione - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I am a huge Jude Deveraux fan, have read all her books, some several times, but this is a meandering, wandering collection of loose ends. No romance at all, first kiss about 20 pages before the story wraps up.

There's young love, CIA, murder and nothing to grab onto, everything is glossed over and rushed when perhaps something, ANYTHING good might have happened.

It has to be the oddest book I've ever finished- I would suggest passing this one up. A total disappointment.

1.0 out of 5 stars Big Letdown From Great Author May 5 2008
By Mary Beth - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I have been a Jude Deveraux fan for years and have read most of her books. I will buy a book just because it has her name on it. This is the first time I have been disappointed, and it was a major letdown.
The opening chapters had the potential to become a good story. Unfortunately, it quickly became a maze of confusing story lines that went nowhere interesting and were populated by characters that were undeveloped and boring shells. Most of the dialogue was trite and just plain silly.
I advise you take a pass on this offering and hope Ms. Deveraux's next book is more up to her usual standard.
