From the Back Cover

D&B Publishing present the PLO Dream Team.

Rolf Slotboom and Rob Hollink join forces to produce THE definitive guide to short-handed Pot-Limit Omaha (tables with six or fewer players).

Do you know Pot-Limit Omaha is one of the fastest growing forms of poker?

Do you know that the biggest online money games are Short-Handed Pot-Limit Omaha?

Rolf and Rob will tell you how to:

* Gauge the optimum size of the buy-in

* Decide whether to check-raise or bet into the raiser

* Represent big hands

* Misrepresent hands in order to get paid off

* Get your opponents off good, but non-nut hands

* Judge when to raise with drawing hands

Rolf Slotboom is the author of the classic “Secrets of Professional Pot Limit Omaha”. In his first attempt in 2007 on the World Series of Poker he cashed four times, including the main $10,000 event.

Rob Hollink has been a leading player for over 20 years and has won both a European tour title and, in 2008, a World Series bracelet.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as his first, Aug 25 2009
This review is from: Secrets of Short-handed Pot-Limit Omaha (Paperback)
Timing is everything. When Slotboom wrote his first book, it was a revolution. There had not been much written about pot-limit omaha. And nothing on a similar short-stacking strategy. This book came out at the same time as a superior book from Jeff Hwang. Timing is everything.

Slotboom does a good job explaining that the 100 BB buy-in isn't always the best idea, and when you should change it up. He also has some unusual strategies in deep-stacked play.

However he doesn't get as deep into the situations as Hwang does in "Advanced Pot Limit Omaha". They touch on the same topics, but Hwang does a better job.

The high-limit hand review with Rob Hollink is interesting. You'll see him dissecting hands against players like OMGClayAiken, Urindanger and other well-known high-stakes internet regulars.

I would include this book if you're serious about PLO. If I had to choose, I would buy Hwang's in a heartbeat.

And on a minor note, it doesn't seem like Slotboom had a native English speaker copy-edit the book. I assume he wrote it in Dutch and had it translated. There are minor grammatical points that may be frustrating to picky readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exellent framework for evolving to a winning player, Aug 3 2009
By Petter Saure - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Secrets of Short-handed Pot-Limit Omaha (Paperback)
This book require a lot of work ,and reflection from the reader.
For those willing to put in the hours, thinking about the many consepts in the book, and how these consepts are tied together, this book will probably be very rewarding. This is not a beginners book per se. Like in his previous book on Omaha, Slotboom puts a lot of emphasis on the different size of your buy in.What is the optimal buy in, related to table position, where you sit in relation to different types of opponents etc. His "simple" approach, on how to avoid difficult decisions on the expensive streets when out of position is brilliant. All in all a very good and thoughtprovoking text on Shorthanded PLO.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid methods for PLO, Aug 11 2009
By T. Kap - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Secrets of Short-handed Pot-Limit Omaha (Paperback)
It is not a punishment to read this book. I like the lively style of these writers very much. The method, being presented, is new for PL Omaha, but practical and easy to understand and easy to play. The examples help a lot too. Although this book is written by top-professional poker players, it is still no problem to master the concepts, when you have some basic knowlegde about odds and outs. This book is a "must have" for every serious PL Omaha player! Furthermore, when you want to play for high stakes, you cannot afford to miss reading the high stakes hands from Full Tilt described by Rob Hollink.

3.0 out of 5 stars Desperately in need of editing, April 19 2011

It's clear Rolf understands PLO very well, and comes at it with some unique ideas which have resulted in a lot of success for him. However (and this was true of his first book as well) he has a very difficult time expressing his ideas clearly.

If you read the text, you'll often be faced with very, very long paragraphs that go on and on. It's difficult to absorb because you're literally faced with a giant block of text with all sorts of digressions and side comments. The book really needs to be broken into a lot of smaller chapters, each tightly focused on a single idea. And each chapter needs to be broken into smaller sections, with clear headings, so you know exactly what's being discussed. More whitespace would really help comprehension, too.

Worth reading if you play PLO (especially at non-micro stakes), but it's a bit of work to get value out of it. Also, please be aware that some of his short stack recommendations aren't really useful if you're playing at a low stakes level, because the rake you pay wipes out any gains you might make from dead money in the pot, etc.
