Seduced by a highlander is not a bad read, but it's not a great read either (even though it could be, had the heroine's character been a little different).
Tristan meets Isobel when they're at a party, in the gardens of the castle. There he starts to talk to her, tells her a story about "knights in shining armor" and so a tentative friendship starts. Then she finds out that he's a McGregor and the his father had killed her father (after he thought that her father had killed Tristan's uncle), and so she doesn't want anything to do with Tristan after that. The next 75% of the book is spent with Tristan trying to win her favor and end the fued between their two families.
Tristan (even though he started out as a womanizer in the beginning of the book), proved very quickly to be a *5* star hero. He was strong/protective/honorable. It was like meeting Isobel and telling her a few of the stories that his uncle used to tell him, had revived in him the desire and hope to be as noble as those "knights" he used to hear about as a child. The problem is that there is no convincing connection built between Tristan and Isobel that would make for a convincing reason as to why Tristan suddenly wanted her favor and to end the fued. The time they spent together in the gardens before she found out that he was a McGregor was short and condensed by the author, and the reader didn't feel any emotional connection between them. And then throughout 75% of the book they had very little chemistry between them.
Isobel on the other hand, wasn't a very likable heroine. Now I understand her reservation towards Tristan after she found out that he was a McGregor, plus she and her brothers are hiding another secret about the death of Tristan's uncle. So I can understand why she would be angry with him, and not want anything to do with him. However she came off as spiteful, there was something emotionally harsh and unappealing about her, and this lasted for 75% of the book! I mean the way Tristan was treated when he first went to their house was just offputting. I also didn't care about her brothers and their plight, because the author failed to show them in a sympathetic light while retaining their dislike of the McGregors. The last 25% of the book are better because Isobel is not spiteful as before.
In the end, this was an average read that could have been better.

A Perfect Historical Highland Romance!, Sep 1 2010

This review is from: Seduced by a Highlander (Mass Market Paperback)
Tristian MacGregor blames himself for his uncle's death, fighting with Alex Fergusson brought the wrath Alex' father to their door to exact revenge for the fight, when Tristian's uncle Robert Campbell is killed during the mele it starts a clan feud.
Fast forward ten years Tristian finds himself in England attending court for a new kings coronation where he meets a beautiful young lady whom captivates him to the point of obsession. When he realizes that she is Isobel Fergusson, the daughter of the man who had killed his uncle he knows he should just walk away and be done with it, but he is drawn to her in a way that leaves him longing only for her!
When Isobel meets a dashing young highlander at court she is immediately drawn to his dashing good looks and his charming ways, but once she realizes he is a MacGregor, the clan who murdered her father, she wants nothing to do with him, the only problem is she can't forget his kisses !
I loved this story, the main characters are a great, Tristan is an honorable man who isn't afraid to go after what he wants. Isobel hasn't had an easy life after her parents died she had to step in and take care of her younger brothers. I felt myself really wanting something better for Isobel, and I felt like that something better was Tristan. This was a romance novel in every sense of the word, I would have to say I loved the humor woven into this story. My favorite parts of the story were when Isobel's brothers pulled the little shenanigans when Tristan first arrived at their home, the vivid descriptions of the things that went on were really funny.
I also enjoyed how Tristan stood with Isobel's brothers when another clan came to burn their crop and later he showed them how to fight with swords. Over and over we were shown what a great guy he was.
I really think it might have been easier to write what I didn't like about this book because that would have been nothing, I enjoyed every aspect of this story and if you are a fan of historical highland romances then you wont want to miss this book!
I was provided a copy of this book from the publisher in return for an honest review!

Delicious Historical Romance!, Sep 3 2010

Isobel Fergusson and Tristan MacGregor meet while in England, unaware that they are members of rival families. When last names are disclosed, Isobel is angry she let a MacGregor get close to her. Tristan, who is used to getting any woman he wants, finds his thoughts constantly preoccupied by Isobel even after she tells him he doesn't have a chance. Being a man who never back down from a challenge he sets out to win her over.
I loved this one even more than the first. I fell victim to Tristan's charms like so many ladies in the book. He is uber dreamy! Isobel was a strong and fiery character. I loved how she was able to resist Tristan's advances, and put him in his place with a snarky retort. I don't think I would have been strong enough ;) Her dedication to her family was also a huge plus for me. Instead of falling apart when orphaned, she set out to make a good life for her brothers. Even when faced with a forbidden love and the risk of family secrets being discovered, she remains strong, and thinks of her family responsibilities first. She is a truly admirable character. I loved the scenes involving her younger siblings and Tristan. Several times I couldn't help but to laugh out loud.
One of my favorite things about Paula Quinn's writing is that she is able to include steamy scenes without it becoming the main focus of the plot. The courtship and falling in love is the main element, and the hot bedroom scenes come after. I can't wait for more! While I recommend reading this series in order, it can easily be read as a standalone. If you want a romance novel that leaves you feeling all warm and fuzzy this is the book for you!
