The undead are multiplying and filling the streets of Tokyo's red light district. The area is quarantined quickly, but degenerates into a district full of terror, panic and devastation. Survivors try to flee the city, but four men rise up to protect those they care most about. If you think zombies are bad, meet the Yakuza. As they run through the battle-scarred streets and witness the scale of the destruction, they are seen as the final hope for the remaining residents of the city as they kick, snipe, batter and bulldoze their way through the hordes of zombies. Immerse yourself in the Kamurocho experience as the true to life recreation of Tokyo's sin-city district faces its greatest threat. Unravel the story as you play through the eyes of four characters, form alliances, and work together to save Japan from the zombie apocalypse.

4.0 out of 5 stars Once you get used to it, it's fun as hell Jun 5 2012

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
This game is pretty much Yakuza 4, minus fighting and killing zombies would pretty much be a mini-game turned into the full game experience. Alot of zombie/monster ideas were borrowed from Left 4 Dead and Resident Evil. I'm a DIE-HARD "Yakuza/Ryu Ga Gotoku/Like A Dragon", so I'm trying to go easy on this game. Trust me. Check out my Silent Hill Downpour review, because I love that series just as much. If they put in a better aiming system, then this game would be incredible, but instead of third person aiming over the shoulder where the camera's facing, the game aims where your character on-screen is looking, so if you're facing a horde of zombies and your character is running in the opposite direction, aiming would reverse that. The mini-games and side-stories give this game LOTS of play-time. You could kill hours on end playing this game, just like the rest of them. It's not horror in any way, but more along the lines of funny. It's pretty much a parody coming straight from the original developers. It disappoints me though that this game could've been put to the side for the moment, and they could've localized the better games in the series, like KENZAN (pretty much a spin-off in Yakuza 3's engine based in the Feudal Era for PS3) or Kurohyou and Kurohyou 2 (both are PSP Def Jam Fight For NY style fighters in the Yakuza universe). All three of those games are better by far than this game, but I guess they thought us American's are THAT much of suckers for zombies. I blame us, not SEGA for this localization, but it's still a good game. If you're looking for a scary zombie experience, look the other way. If you're just looking for some fun arcade-style gaming, you want to burn some hours away, or you're a big fan of the series, than look no further.

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful game... Don't buy! April 25 2013

This game is terrible. All you gonna do is shoot tons of mindless zombies. The controls are terrible and unresponsive, the developer couldn't even made the aiming accurate. It's also a very short game, which will take you about 5 hrs to complete it and there is zero replay value. The story? What story? There is no story other than zombies pop outta no where and you gotta fight the sobs. Terrible game and now I would think twice before buying another game from seta. They messed up too many games. Don't buy this pice of $hi1!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Full Blown Yakuza Experience Mar 20 2012
By Thomas Hoang - Published on Amazon.com
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I am really surprised at how deep this game is. I was expecting it to be a spin-off (and it somewhat is) of the series, but it retains all of the things that fans of the series love. Don't think that this is just a game where you go around shooting zombies. There are still all of the sub-stories, side quests, massage parlors, karaoke bars, and hostess clubs seen in previous Yakuza games. I would basically describe this game as another Yakuza game, but with the brawling gameplay replaced by zombie shooting. So if you are a fan of the series, do not hesitate to buy this game, it is a fresh take on the series, but it retains what makes the series great.

4.0 out of 5 stars Yakuza Goes In A New Direction April 30 2012

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
If you have an affinity for Japanese culture, then the Yakuza series should appeal to your sensibilities. Honestly, this very bias explains the high scores Dead Souls has received. This would be more along the lines of a 3 star game, if it weren't for that unique Japanese flavor. If you are familiar with the Yakuza series, you should know that Dead Souls is quite the departure. Firstly, there are zombies. And not just zombies, but a crap ton of zombies. I must have slaughtered hundreds in the first hour alone. Secondly, melee combat has been removed, and replaced with an awkward, but strangely enjoyable 3rd person shooting mechanic. These controls take some getting used to, but grow on you over time. Aiming has an auto assist function, that makes head shots quite fun to pull off. The story wasn't treated like an afterthought here. The same amount of care, and attention to detail, is on par with the rest of the series. Mini games and exploration are back as well, with less emphasis placed on both. Recommeded.

It starts off a little slow then picks up great. If you like Yakuza you'll love this. This is no run of the mill zombie killing game, it has substoires that a really funny and the sotry is interesting. Also you get to play as Majima and Goda.
