Gameplay

As with previous releases in the Yakuza game franchise, Yakuza 4 is a localized version of the original Japanese action-adventure release. The game is played predominantly from a third-person perspective and features a blend of mission-based gameplay, light RPG functionality and mini-games. Within the game players take on the role of four different characters as they literally fight their way through the Japanese underworld. Each of these characters has a different storyline, although these do overlap. Each also possesses a different fighting style. During street brawls characters gain or lose strength indicated by their on-screen meter. When this meter is full players gain access to finishing moves with which to defeat opponents. These moves are different from one character to the next. With success characters level up, gain access to new areas and can partake of a variety of rewards, including clubs where they will encounter women who they can socialize with. Additional features include: the new Chase battle mode, character specific side games and Japanese themed mini-games like pachinko, table tennis, karaoke and more.

4.0 out of 5 stars The modern beat-em-up game Sep 26 2011
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
In Yakuza 4 you get to play as 4 characters that gain new abilities as you play and have access to a wide array of weapons and situational special moves making combat quite varied and brutal.
The game also includes around 25 minigames like 9-holes of golf, casino games and traditional japanese games like Mahjong, Shogi and Koi-koi.
Once you finish the game you can restart it in adventure mode to finish all the sub-missions you might have missed without having to redo the entire story and keeping all the items and money you gained in your playthrough. You can also restart at a higher or lower difficulty setting while keeping everything.
If you like beat em up games, Japanese stories and having a lot of gameplay for your money, chances are you will enjoy Yakuza 4.

If you are a big fan of GTA and Yakuza, this video game will enchant you. It's a GTA like but with martial arts. The storyline is pretty interesting and you can play for at least 30hours.

Very good game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great but can be frustrating April 8 2011

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
This game is great. The story is amazing and the graphics are very descent. The fact that it is all in japanese might sound annoying but it is absolutely not. The story is so good that you forget that the game is not in english. The only bad thing is that it gets very repetitive and frustrating. The major fight scenes are fun but the fact that random people on the streets pick fights with you is very frustrating. Sometimes, you just want to do a side quest and you don't necessarily want to fight anyone. Overall, despite the irritations, I definitely recommend getting this game, especially if you like Asian culture!
