4.0 out of 5 stars Book is mostly accurate but missing a page July 24 2013
Format:Perfect Paperback|Verified Purchase
Argh! This book is missing a page of a song I want to learn. Sweet Child O' Mine (by Guns n' Roses). The first page of the song (supposed to be page 292) is missing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rolling Stone Guitar Book Nov. 7 2010

Well done overall. I and my guitar students have enjoyed the tunes in this book. Unlike a lot of books, these songs are in the original key so that you can play along with the original recordings without changing keys. I have found the charts to be most accurate.

5.0 out of 5 stars great gift! Feb. 10 2010

I ordered this as a gift for my boyfriend. He has learned half the book already, even with his very limited music reading skills. There are chords, tabs, and sheet music for every song. Really really great book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent songbook for aspiring rock guitarists July 26 2012
By R.T. - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Perfect Paperback|Verified Purchase
Pros:
-Song selection is varied and adequately represent the classic rock era
-Notation is thorough, including all chords, lyrics, some tabs, and standard sheet music for each song
-All the music seems to be in the correct keys, tuning, rhythms, etc
-has a short background for each song including band, chart ranking, year, etc. Interesting to read

Cons:
-Although advertised as "Easy", the songs in this book are more suited for players of intermediate or higher skill level.
-The print is a bit small for my taste, I would rather spend more time playing guitar than trying to decipher the notes.
-TAB format is often not present for the whole song, usually just intro sections or solos.

On the whole, I think that this songbook is a good way to learn some of the more famous classic rock tunes. Rather than some books which only include the more recognizable parts of songs such as intros or main riffs, the Rolling Stone songbook contained sheet music for the entirety of every song. That being said, I found that the font size was set a little bit too small to make for easy reading while playing. I find myself having to spend a decent amount of time before even picking up my guitar to read the music and pick out the smallest of the notes (hammer-ons, pick-ups, chord charts). This book is probably NOT the best fit for those just starting guitar (I would reccommend the "Hal-Leonard Easy Pop Melodies" for novices, one edition comes with a CD to provide backup and tempo). But for those with a fair amount of skill, this publication from Rolling Stone with over 60 songs will provide hours of fun and value

Note on shipping: my copy came with 3 of the corners slightly damaged/dented but this was probably due to the shipping and not the publisher

I did not and ordered this for a friend thinking I was getting him 500 songs. It is in fact a only 67. Yes I feel a little silly. I do feel however that I still got a good deal and hope the friend likes the book.
4.0 out of 5 stars Aside from Slashing Slash.....not bad. Jan. 22 2014

Book publishing just ain't what it use to be. I don't know if my copy was the standard but when they edited mine the publisher left out the first page of "Sweet Child of Mine" but no problem they just pasted , yes pasted it in. I guess the days of printted page publishing may be near.
But whatever right? It's close enough for rock and roll......and so are the songs if they aren't accurate in key and rhythm these transcriptions are definitely close enough. So if you see some of your favorite songs here I'd recommend you get this.
