I heard Julia Nunes on the radio. She seemed really cool and unpretentious. Her photos show a person who must be really fun to be around, with a huge infectious grin.
When her fundraising via Kickstarter significantly exceeded her goal, she took the opportunity to spend more time in the studio. The songs are short - she joked that she must have a short attention span. A few clock in under one minute. That's fine, if that's all the time she needs to make her point.
There is a low-tech vibe to this music, mostly a girl and her ukulele, occasionally joined by a few strings and some backup singers. The lyrics are sly and the tunes are catchy. Julia's voice is fine if unexceptional, occasionally reminiscent of early Carly Simon. When combined with the backup vocals, the effect is really excellent.
I find the music to be really comfortable for driving or just chilling out. It makes me want to sing along. This music should appeal to a lot of musical tastes and generations. It is definitely worth a listen.
