Book Description

July 12 2011
For the first time, Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor speaks directly to his fans and shares his worldview about life as a sinner. And Taylor knows how to sin. As a small-town hero in the early '90s, he threw himself into a fierce-drinking, drug-abusing, hard-loving, live-for-the moment life. Soon Taylor's music exploded, and he found himself rich, wanted, and on the road. His new and ever-more extreme lifestyle had an unexpected effect, however; for the first time, he began toactively think about what it meant to sin and whether sinning could--or should--be recast in a different light.Seven Deadly Sins is Taylor's personal story, but it's also a larger discussion of what it means to be seen as either a "good" person or a "bad" one. Yes, Corey Taylor has broken the law and hurt people, but, if sin is what makes us human, how wrong can it be?

Review

Publishers Weekly, 6/13/11
“Fans of the heavy metal band Slipknot will eagerly devour its lead singer/songwriter Taylor’s first book, which displays a prose that perfectly captures the supercharged energy, aggression, and outrageousness of Slipknot’s music…Powerful and moving.”

Revolver magazine, 7/1/11
“Dishy”

The Oakland Press, 6/30/11
“In this series of essays, based around the titular sins, Taylor espouses upon the lessons learned while going from ‘an absolute crazy person’ into someone more in control and reflective—but not pulling any punches. He can be both self-effacing and self-aggrandizing, but he presents a more worthwhile and even illuminating ‘argument’ than most of his peers could manage.”

Drive 97.3 KLCB Rocks (video review), 6/28/11
“A great book…Steps away from the average rock bio. It’s really a trip into the deranged mind of Corey Taylor himself. It reads just like he talks and if you’ve seen any of his interviews or ever met Corey Taylor you know that it’s going to be a fun time.”

Metro, 7/18/11
“An in-depth argument for the redefinition of sin, meshed with personal stories from [Taylor’s] childhood and career.”

Seattle Weekly (Duff McKagan blog), 7/21/11
“It looks fascinating…Corey Taylor is one of those people that just seems impossibly good at whatever he chooses to pursue, and I have no doubt that this tome will reflect this fact.”

The Nervous Breakdown, 7/30/11
“Corey Taylor delivers a unique spin on the rock star biography, foregoing the strip-mined territory of the rock and roll tell-all and instead incorporating tales of his excesses into an articulate, thought-provoking examination of sin, morality and the search for purpose…He combines his own life experiences with an intriguing examination of the seven deadly sins…His style is intimate and conversational, as if you're the last two standing after a long night out…Loads of humor, colorful analogies and of course, some riveting stories of life in the fast lane.”

AOL Noisecreep, 8/10/11
“A compelling read, the book is a refreshing journey through an age-old concept and its definition. The warts-and-all approach he uses in his lyrical approach is used in Seven Deadly Sins to winning effect.”

Des Moines Register, 8/8/11
“[Taylor] takes an f-bomb-loaded crack at philosophizing on sin and an often astute look at modern society’s folly.”

MetalAssault
“Exceeded my expectations…Corey’s on-stage personality came across as very likable, and his direct interaction with the fans made it completely worth the time and money they invested towards this show…A delightful two-and-a-half hours with Corey Taylor...I recommend this show not only to fans of Slipknot and/or Stone Sour, but also to fans of rock music in general, because there’s something in it for all of you. A terrific performance indeed.”

Hollywood Music Magazine, 11/22/11
“[Taylor is] a literary genius of this day and age….‘Seven Deadly Sins’ is full of hilarious and thought provoking metaphors, innuendos and references that need to be highlighted just so you can show your friends…I can not recommend this book enough, hell I will buy you a copy or let you borrow mine if it means that you’ll make some time in your busy days, to read at least a few pages at a time. This a MUST-READ book if I’ve ever seen one.”

Lithium Magazine, 12/2/11
“It was definitely an entertaining evening and a chance to see a star of Taylor's magnitude in a small intimate setting. It was also a unique opportunity to see a side of him that we don't always get to see - the intellectual and humourous side. The man can SING, and shows it off in an acoustic setting far more than is possible while behind the amps and masks of his other bands.”

Examiner, 12/5/11
“Corey Taylor has finally gotten his chance to share his love for all music as well as his personal magnetism, and if even just one die-hard metalhead walked away with a newfound appreciation for U2 and Pink Floyd, it was all worth it.”

Loudwire.com, 12/5/11
“Corey Taylor continues to prove why he is one of the most entertaining frontmen in the business.”

Pop Culture Madness, 12/6/11
“To sum it up: Corey Mother F**king Taylor is mother f**king hilarious, and if you have a chance to get out and see one of his rare intimate solo performances it will certainly be an evening to remember, as Taylor’s lacerating wit and unwavering view of the world shed insight into the artists psyche…”

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Oct 17 2012
By Ariadne
Format:Hardcover
I can honestly say that this is one of my favourite books. Being a fan of both Slipknot and Stone Sour, I was extremely excited when I heard that Corey Taylor was writing a book. "Seven Deadly Sins" is NOT an autobiography nor is it marketed as one. It's basically Corey defending his opinion that the Seven Deadly Sins aren't actually sins but just a common part of human behaviour. There are multiple anecdotes from Corey's life that he uses to back up his arguments. It's quite philosophical at times and always entertaining. My favourite thing about this book is the fact that it's amusing yet makes some interesting points. Corey's writing style is very eloquent and I find that he does a really good job at defending himself. This book is a real page turner that's sure to be loved by any Corey Taylor fan. A definite must read. I really hope he writes another one soon.

1.0 out of 5 stars Corey Taylor the Preacher Dec 21 2011
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I hoped for an autobiography but I didn't get that. There are only a few short stories of his own and some aren't even in great detail. What I got out of the book was Corey Taylor stating how the seven deadly sins are not sins and he overstated this by repeating his views with different sentences. It's not a long book and could of definitely been shorter if he didn't repeat himself over and over in each chapter. This has to be one of my most disappointing reads in a long time. Heres to hoping he still puts out the autobiography.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow. July 5 2011
By Catherine - Published on Amazon.com

I don't want to type a long review, but I did want to point out a few things about this book. It is not an autobiography. It is Corey Taylor's opinions on the seven deadly sins. There are quite a few anecdotes of his life, but they are there mainly to prove that Corey has the knowledge/experience to write about each particular sin. Having said that, I found this book to be both funny and insightful. He really writes so everyone can understand him, and get thouroughly into his story. We all know Corey can write moving songs, but who knew he could do the same in a book? I truly enjoyed reading this.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's like a conversation with Corey July 20 2011
By J. Grey - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
As other reviewers have said, it's not an autobiography, although it does contain anecdotes and insights into Corey Taylor's life. It's more of a philosophy about what sins are (old and new), what human nature is, and how it all fits into life. Each of the 7 deadly sins has its place, and in Corey T's world, that place isn't always where you expect.

In this book, Corey Taylor's thoughts are clear and well developed, and his style is conversational. It's surprisingly clever in places. From the moment I picked it up, it held my interest and kept it throughout. You feel like you're listening to him talk (where's that audio book?)

It's well worth the read.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great read! July 20 2011

I've always liked Corey's humor and his world view is a lot like mine (I have to say it's like mine as I am older - LOL!). This book is poignant, if you ask me, and made me laugh out loud several, hell LOTS, of times! I'm glad that my thoughts and views are finally in print! :o) Great job and highly recommend it!
