Well worth the wait!,

We'd been searching for the book for quite a while and whenever we did find one, the cost was prohibitive Stateside. This was something we REALLY wanted and when this opportunity came up, we ran with it. Admittedly, the shipping took a bit longer than expected but it truly is worth the wait. George Mann is a master storyteller and editor (we're very enticed by his steampunk novels as well)~ there is something wonderfully comfortable about a story that fits well, rather like a rich pair of leather gloves. All smooth and fine materials, sewn together to create something exciting and unique and encourages repeat wearings. Or, in this case, repeat readings! Our only problem is which of us gets to delve into the book first ...
Snaps to Tom and the crew at Book Depository, by the way ~ when the book didn't arrive on the date we'd been informed of, our email was immediately answered - we were offered choices (what a concept!) but we're very glad we chose to wait the extra week or so to get our book.

750-odd pages of stories and novellas - and a short play - written by various authors. Some are detective-deduction stories in Sherlock Holmes style, others are "Boys' Own" type adventures with daring deeds and narrow escapes. I hadn't realised Sexton Blake adventures were kept going from the late 1800s through to the 1960s by a swag of different writers. These date from 1909 through to 1933. I haven't finished it yet but I'm finding it entertaining reading!

Great Collection, Terrible Presentation,

This is a terrific bumper volume of Sexton Blake stories and novellas, but the reading experience is marred by dozens if not hundreds of typos that appear to have been introduced by poor proofreading after original texts were scanned (things like "cast" for "east", "beard" for "heard", etc.). In addition, one of the novellas, "They Shall Repay!" is missing the ending chapters! While this is a treasure trove of rare Blake material Snowbooks has not done well by it.
