Book Description

IT'S WAR!!!

During his expedition to find the lost priests of Morcyth, James learned in part why he was brought to this world. But to accomplish what needs to be done, the City of Light must again be free of the Empire. In order for that to happen however, he will have to devise a campaign through which such could be made a reality.

Once the spring thaw begins, and the passes leading into Madoc are again passable, he leads a force from The Ranch over into Madoc. Beginning at Lythylla, Madoc's capital, he sets into motion a series of events which he believes will see the Empire driven from Madoc's soil.

A friend's past brings unexpected allies and James stumbles upon a dark secret buried deep beneath the ground for centuries. A secret better left alone.

From the Author

Why did I decide to write The Morcyth Saga? I suppose the main reason was due to the many series which were currently popular at the time. Series that in the beginning grabbed hold of me and wouldn't let go, but then over time began to lose momentum in a mire of subplots and overlong descriptive paragraphs which I found myself skipping. When I realized I was skipping pages at a time to pass through a subplot that didn't really move the story along to get to the what I would consider the `good points' (action, adventure, actually seeing the main characters) I figured I could do better.

So I set out to write a series in which the reader followed the main character 90% of the time, action or points of interest were in every chapter, and descriptive content was down to a minimum. As a reader I knew I could create my own visualization of surroundings and figured others could to. I mean, do you really need me to go in depth as to what a teenage boy's room looks like? Doesn't `messy boy's room' bring up an instant visual? Stuff like that is what I mean. Certainly there are those who prefer grand descriptive content and a myriad of plots that takes a notepad to keep track of. To them I would say The Morcyth Saga is not for you.

As to the story itself, I was a role player decades ago in high school. And I got to thinking about how interesting it would be should a gamer be thrust into a world in which his gaming experiences could help him thrive. After all, if you take a person from our world and thrust them into a world of magic, wouldn't it be helpful to select someone who would be more amenable to the prospect of magic? Perhaps one whose very interests were along those lines? That was how James came into being, a high school senior who loves creating and then running his friends through his creation.

The Morcyth Saga and The Broken Key Trilogy are both written along gaming lines. The Morcyth Saga is about a gamer that is thrust into a world of magic while The Broken Key is written in role playing style.

5.0 out of 5 stars WAR!!!!!!!, Jun 19 2007
This review is from: Shades of the Past: Book Six of the Morcyth Saga (Paperback)
James goes to war. That's right, here in the sixth book, he gets to kick a little Empire butt. Early in the book he heads over to Madoc and with those he's gathered to him, sets out to cause sufficient damage to the Empire's forces to enable Madoc's army to push them completely out.

This isn't a head on, army versus army type of battles. No. It's more of a guerilla campaign. James and his bunch push deep behind the lines and play merry hell with the Empire's supply line and engage the reinforcements heading up to the front.

The Empire's mages play a major role in this book. Previously, all we've seen of them was when James came up against them in battle. But here, we see into the School of the Arcane and learn more about what makes them tick.

Battle after battle, they push their way deeper into Madoc until finally entering the Empire itself. By this time, forces are being diverted from the front and other places to squash them.

Be prepared for some sleepless nights for when the action starts, it can last for chapters. James also has come up with a few new tricks which are quite ingenious. His 'seeds' were a stroke of genius and worked out quite well.

Of course, there's a climactic battle at the end of the book with magic flying and swords striking. Completely incredible. One of the better battles I've read to tell you the truth. The ending of the battle wasn't what I expected and I won't say any more. don't want to spoil it for you.

For me, this was the best of the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars easy read, Nov 26 2010

i downloaded the first book of the series as a free book for my kindle. I found it interesting enough to purchase the entire series. Is the book/series predictable? Yes. It is an easy to read, is to pick up book. If you need more fantasy/sci-fi or more intellect stimulation don't buy the book or the series and get Tolkien instead. But if you like book that is easy and where you don't have to think about the plot etc, get it, and read it. Follow the characters.....

I trully enjoyed these charterters. The repeat of the words for the fight scens and the continous caution to be careful need to be addressed by the author.Don no stop writing just expand your ability. Fun until the very end.
