Crossman's first novel, Shades of Teale, is a heart-wrenching story of the disillusioning process following love and marriage. The multi-dimensional characters scream their stories out from the page, which is at times upsetting and disconcerting, but ultimately articulate the stifling and strangling effects that the wrong marriage can have on a bright, talented woman. Not for the faint of heart, Shades of Teale stirs up strong emotions from the reader's core, ultimately demanding them to ask themselves: am I happy really after all?
