4.0 out of 5 stars Nicely surprised Mar 23 2009
Format:Blu-ray
I was actually quite pleased with this Shriek Show Blu-ray. The 1080p transfer is fairly impressive considering the low budget nature of this exploitation/action women-in-prison/mad scientist/ zombie-virus flick. There is digital grain present in about 50% of the shots, but the whole thing is so over-the-top in some crazy seventies drive-in way that it almost seems like that grain should be there.

I think this might be the best of the Shriek Show/Tokyo Shock -produced flicks, it's fast-paced and in your face and completely exploitive in nearly every aspect form the martial arts to the lesbian guards and shower scenes, never mind the Tony Todd demon and plethora of zombies that turn up to overtake the prison. And that's not even the half of it.

The extras appear to have been all brought over from the DVD release, but my favorite was the "grindhouse"-style trailer that was created for Shadow, it's almost better than the movie! Come to think of it, the auditions are pretty hilarious, too. Recommended for fans of cinema in the not-quite-mainstream vein.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, it surprised me! Mar 29 2006
By Don Cheeto - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD
Well, I had watched the trailer for this film on the Anthropaphagus DVD, and to tell you the truth it looked weak. Needless to say, I went to the store today to check out the new releases. I had already four movies picked out,a nd needed one more. So I went back to the horror section and happened to see this one, the packaging caught my attention, plus it was really cheap. I looked at the cover and immediately recognized it from the trailer I had watched. I tought it was going to suck, but I bought it anyway not expecting much. I watched it tonight and man it surprised the hell out of me. It was pretty entertaining if you like horror movies. I don't think there was any boring part to it. It definetely delivered. Plenty of naked girls, plenty of blood and gore, and even some zombies. I will admit this movie surprised me and turned out a lot better than I had anticipated, I'm glad I bought it out of impulse. If you like horror movies, then give this one a try. I redeemed myself with this one after having bought Anthrapophagus, that was a let down.

5.0 out of 5 stars SHOCKING! NOT TO BE MISSED! Feb 9 2010
By Explorator - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD
I was completely STUNNED by how intense this thing is! Its a wild over-the-top action gorefest in a women-in-prison setting with scenes that will shock even the most jaded cult movie fan! I highly recommend this to cult movie fans looking for sheer entertainment and that 'grindhouse' movie vibe (the trailer for 'Shadow' is even made to look like a 70s grindhouse trailer). The 'Damnation' feature is outrageously non-PC with a woman getting kidnapped by a female cop, drugged by injection and taken to an underground female prison where she is forced to endure all kinds of humiliation and torments. She also has a run in with a doctor who practices the rudest abortion technique you're likely to see in a cult movie! This is really outrageous stuff that took some real guts to make! Sure to be controversial once enough people get around to watching it, this is one of those rare ones that slipped through the fence!

5.0 out of 5 stars MISTY MUNDAE PRISON GIRL ZOMBIE FILM! Aug 11 2011
By Michael - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD
The film begins with Tony Todd as Shadow in prison awaiting to be put to death for countless crimes of murder and rape. His teeth are honed into points. During his execution some supernatural stuff happens and a prison riot ensues. Todd and the corpses of his inmates are place in a mass grave....

We now flash forward 20 years to the present. It is now a woman's prison complete with a sadistic lesbian guard (Andrea Langi), shower scene, horny doctor and the new tough girl, Solitaire. Solitaire ends up in solitaire where she touches a carving in the floor made by Todd. She has visions of the ghastly images of his crimes including the torture and killing of a pregnant woman. Misty Mundae (credited as Erin Brown) plays Crystal, the prison girlfriend of Mondo, Solitaire's nemesis.

When blood is spilled on the ground where Todd is buried...all zombie hell breaks loose.

occasional f-bomb, minor sex, lesbian themes, full frontal nudity (only when tasteful and necessary for the plot), girls with tramp stamps, a baby from "It's Alive" (they wanted to make sure everything was covered) excessive blood and gore. Grindhouse cult classic. Deleted scenes include tasteful extended shower scenes. Not for everyone. A Misty Mundae prison girl zombie film, a must for discriminating collectors.
