1.0 out of 5 stars Bland and uninteresting May 4 2012

I received this deck as a gift from a friend who knew of my passion for the tarot. It doesn't have the feel of a real tarot deck. It's more like a computer-generated sketchbook with simplistic grey-on-white renderings of the typical tarot archetypes. Aside from the minimalistic look, there's nothing new or innovative in the artistic interpretations which attempt to mimic the traditional Waite imagery, sans the mystical, Renaissance style. The card stock is thin and the backs of the cards have no design, other than a bland grey rectangle. The lack of color and backgrounds and the repetition of generic characters adds to the overall cheap vibe of this deck. The deck and accompanying book were created by tarot enthusiasts Richard and Jennifer Shadowfox, who review various tarot decks online, proving that it's much easier to critique other tarot decks than to create something original. I'll keep this deck on the shelf with my other novelty decks, but will never use it.

Here's a new review for the ShadowFox Tarot from the Association for Tarot Studies website:

[...]

Quote - "Our next two offerings, both from Schiffer Books, stand in sharp contrast to the colours of Shadowscapes. The ShadowFox Tarot by Richard and Jennifer ShadowFox, is just plain haunting. Although it is "black and white" upon first glance, I'd be inclined to characterize it more as "white with shadows". Once again, this deck has a companion book that is not to be missed."
