Something evil has come to White Pine Island. The once sedated coastal community has become the scene of several unexplained deaths, and lonely widow Nan Roberts has seen malevolent shadows defacing the pristine beach of her beloved home.

Nan calls upon her childhood friend, Finn McCoy, to investigate the supernatural events occurring on the island. But even the famed paranormal handler may be in over his head on this one.

With the aid of a famous ghost and a young girl with abilities similar to his own, McCoy must stop the dark and hungry presence before it can strike again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Read! Nov. 5 2014
By PURPLE JEWELS - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
This was another chilling and fun installment in Finn McCoy Paranormal adventures. The plot was interesting, the writing style was sharp, concise and vivid; and the pacing of the story was good. In this installment Finn is taken away from his beloved mountains to the Carolina coastline. The paranormal denizens are delightfully malevolent and horrifying. However, what I liked most was Pru. The little spit fire was a breath of fresh air in the paranormal thriller genre and I really hope to see her again in a future story. There are no sex scenes and only a small bit of profanity. There were a few typos/editing errors but nothing too distracting. The story did feel a bit short. No cliffhanger ending so this book would make a good stand alone read.

I do have concerns regarding the feasibility and believability of Finn being able to perform effectively given how old the author has chosen to characterize him and given that his last injury has left him severely physically weakened. I really can't help questioning the author's wisdom and foresight in limiting Finn's physical strength, mobility and vitality given that his profession demands all 3 in order for the series to be believable. Nevertheless, this was a good lite paranormal thriller and, for now, I plan to continue reading the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great chapter in the saga of Finn McCoy June 5 2014

Myth, Legend - or reality? Paranormal handler Finn McCoy journeys from his home in the Appalachian mountains to the shores of South Carolina's barrier islands to help a friend haunted by ghosts. This should almost be a vacation for Finn and his girlfriend, Amanda; after all, compared to the demons and other malevolent creatures infesting Finn's home town of Shallow Springs, a ghost hunt should be a walk on the beach. As Finn says, "What could possibly go wrong?"

Once again, Scott Langrel offers his fans a heart-pounding glimpse into the paranormal world inhabited by Finn McCoy, his cohorts and the Otherworldly monsters seeking their destruction.

4.0 out of 5 stars Scary fun read Aug. 13 2014

Loved it. I have read all but the last one in the series and have it downloaded to read.
I found the book exciting and scary with never a dull moment. The characters are likable and the plot execution is great.
This book is highly recommended as are the others in the series. The books are not real long but there is little wasted time on useless chit chat page fillers. I am hoping for more in the series. I like this authors style of writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun ride and read... Sept. 2 2014

I have fallen in love with this series. I have always loved supernatural tales and the story line and characters in this series is a wonderful read. Finn McCoy is a strong but fallible character who is aware of the Fey (fairies and such), demons and other other worldly beings and "handles" problems involving them. Fast paced, strong charaterizations and likable people make this and the other books in the series a fun ride and read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not a Dull Moment! March 4 2013

Shadows in the Sand is one of those books that just keeps on happening from the moment you begin reading to "The End"! Loved the ocean setting for yet another unearthly being to make it's menacing appearance, and Finn's introduction of Prucilla, a 12 year old gifted child. This was rapid fire reading for me, never a dull moment, and I'm hoping that Pru can be intergrated into future books. Keep the Finn McCoy books coming!
