3.0 out of 5 stars The final book in John Sherwood's Horticultural Mystery Series with protagonist Celia Grant., Oct 17 2010
By Linda M. "mystery devotee" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Shady Borders -Lib WOR -Op/026 (Library Binding)
Before she and her assistant can do more than purchase and deliver a multitude of the annuals that will be planted into what Celia fears will be a overly colorful garden, the owner of the home, Charles Augustus Winthropp, the Fourteenth Earl of Clandon, is murdered with a sledgehammer and thrown into the river.

There are the usual suspects: The much younger wife, the cold and furious estate manager, a surly tour guide, a smarmy travel agent who has had a prior relationship with Lady Clandon, and last but not least, two lazy, spiteful gardners who would rather be at the pub drinking beer than earning their wages.

This book follows a typical pattern of the local police inspector and his sidekick interrogating the various characters to determine motive and opportunity, only to discover that most of them have lied about themselves and the others. With Celia's expertise in genetics of plants, and as it turns out, humans, the mystery is solved satisfactorily.
