Book Description

Jun 28 2002
The Ealothian Family, a once scattered people gifted with psychic powers, has become one of the most influential and powerful people in the galaxy. Many people, however, fear and hate them.

Seeking refuge from increasingly violent persecution the Family decide to form an alliance with the Avoyelles Empire. Because Avoyelles boasts a large psychic population it seemingly offers the Family a safe haven. In exchange The Family agrees to launch their mercenary fleet against the Empire¡¯s long-time enemy, the Cassasians, who are setting up for an all-out assault.

The deal is sealed with a marriage between Princess Anna of Avoyelles and Jessup, the crown prince of the Ealothian Family. But not all is not as it seems in Avoyelle. Terrorists from radical hate groups have already infiltrated the Empire.

As the Family struggles to deal with the terrorist threat, Jessup leads their fleet into a devastating war. Meanwhile Anna, little more than a child, struggls to become the queen her people need and deserve. As these two young people grow into their roles, they find within themselves the strength to put their love, their dreams, and their very lives on the line for their people.

5.0 out of 5 stars Variety ++ Could not put the book down!! Aug 1 2002
Format:Paperback
This definitely is one of the best reads I've had a a long time!

There is such an amazing variety throughout these pages that it would be hard for me to put it into one single reading category.

A friend said it was good, although it isn't in my *usual* reading preference, (and I was very skeptical), but thought I'd take his word for it... It was terrrrific!!

There are so many twists and turns, and there is no such thing as getting 'bogged down' - by any means - no boring lulls in this book!

Definitely is going to be a chart topper.

Bottom line - - a must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Something for everyone! Aug 1 2002
Format:Paperback
Do you like fantasy? Books about magic, wizards and denizens of that magical place, Faerie? How about star ships, space battles, and faster-than-light travel? Is political intrigue more your cup of tea, or perhaps even romance? This book has it all, and more! The only thing missing is dragons. This is an epic novel that crosses the boundaries between the SF and Fantasy worlds and throws in tons of extras. The settings are so three dimensional that I could taste the wine and meats, smell the trees, feel the queasiness of space-sickness. The protagonists are fascinating, completely dysfunctional people who struggle under the burden of duty and honor. The author has clearly been influenced by J.R.R. Tolkien, Anne McCaffrey, and even the Arthurian legends. I highly recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys a great cliff-hanging, page-turning read.

Also recommended: Lord Of The Rings, The Dragonriders Of Pern, The Dragonbone Chair (Tad Williams), The Faded Sun (C.J. Cherryh), Pride OF Chanur (C.J. Cherryh), The Once And Future King (T.H. White)
