Shawn Desman seems bent on following in the footsteps of fellow Portuguese-Canadian teen pop sensation, Nelly Furtado, in bringing his own brand of slickly produced, hip-hop-influenced pop to the masses. Though the 19-year-old Desmans voice is strong and clear, his lyrics suitably hip and young, he doesnt have a whole lot more to distinguish himself from the scads of other R&B crooners out there, other than his striking good looks and dancing skills (he even thanks his choreographer in the credits). Which, come to think of it, may actually be enough. Luckily, generic teen pop is not Desmans only gig. He also has an established Latin fan base and recently recorded a duet with Brazilian superstar Alexandre Pires, and has done some acting in movies and commercials. All of which is just slightly more interesting than this rather fluffy self-titled debut filled with a dozen variations on the teen-love theme. --Adem Tepedelen
