Sheepman Searched for this for years and fnally found it at TCM, but it seems to be the same as the Amazon version. A movie has to make an impact for me to remember it for over 30 years and this is one of Glen Ford's greatest roles outside of Gilda. Jason Sweet (Ford) arrives in Powder Valley w/ a herd of sheep. Fisrt he seeks out the town bully and decks him, then he hires the town busy-body as a spy and then he demonstrates his prowess w/ a gun. Having established his seprememcy and determination to bring sheep into cow country (hardly a popular move) he attracts the attenntion of the big man in town (Lesley Neilson before he made tacky comedies))who turns out to be an old sparring partner from his gunfighting days.

Love interest Shirley Maclean is engaged to Neilson and attracted to Ford. Sweet is not popular on any front. While this may be a cowboy comedy Ford is still the quiet, tough gunman w/ a quick wit. The comedy comes from the script and the supporting actors. If you liked James Garner in Support your Local Sherrif and James Stewart in Destry Rides Again, you'll love this film.
If you're a Glenn Ford fan you'll love this film.

George Marshal, director of Destry rides Again, directs this movie based on a story by James Edward Grant. No extras, just great classic western well worth owning for the suburb acting, dynamic writing and tight direction.

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) presents "THE SHEEPMAN" (1958) (86 min/Color) -- Starring: Glenn Ford, Shirley MacLaine, Leslie Neilsen, Mickey Shaughnessy, Edgar Buchanan & Pernell Roberts

Directed by George Marshall

Jason Sweet (Glenn Ford) is a remarkable self-assured though hard-bitten sheep farmer who is running up against the opposition of the town and cattle ranchers. Enters Dell Payton (Shirley MacLaine, a no-nonsense frontier girl who becomes the bone of contention between Sweet and cattle baron Col. Stephen Bedford (Leslie Nielsen). Meanwhile, Sweet `s standing in the town rises when he manages to humiliate Bedford's top gun Jumbo McCall (Mickey Shaughnessy) in public. This brooding range war crystallizes when Sweet & Bedford go one-on-one in this exciting western (possessed of several light-hearted moments).

Mickey Shaughnessy is Nielson's right hand man, who can't seem to get the better of Ford when he comes to town. Mickey is a scene stealer, probably one of his best roles. This flick is just about as fun and light hearted as it gets with good action packed gunplay.
