3.0 out of 5 stars Good acting and mood, but stupid movie March 18 2014
By Moodywoody TOP 500 REVIEWER
Shelter offers good enough entertainment if you like spiritual horror or ghost movies, thanks largely to professional performances by Julianne Moore and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers. The film offers a creepy enough ambiance and mood to give it a passing grade as an okay ghost movie. However, Shelter is really a third rate version of the excellent film of the genre, The Skeleton Key, starring Kate Hudson. Unlike The Skeleton Key, Shelter has a story in which it is difficult for the viewer to discern character motivations, particularly for those with an evil bent. Both films force the viewer to accept non-sense premises, but at least in The Skeleton Key one is able to at least understand why events are happening.

Shelter confuses the viewer with a mumbo jumbo soup of religious ideas, voodooism, and gnostic notions of an evil and sadistic God who punishes non-believers, though one is never clear as to what a believer is. In fact, the film not only confuses the viewer as to the motivations of certain characters, but is also left with trying to figure out some of the disturbing and nauseous religious philosophy that the film puts forward.

If you are looking for a great horror ghost movie, get The Skeleton Key and shelter yourself from Shelter.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's Not Really That Bad.definitely Not Great. Sept. 14 2013
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
I though that i would give this movie a chance to grow on me but it
sort of fell, way beyond my expectation, for some reason they left one scene
way too long to get back to,and to not even give you a definition has to how
his demise happen,if you're going to bring people into a scene and then leave
them out of it for 35 min.just don't make sense, especially if there're essential
to the movie,so that was a big hole for me to digest, kept waiting for them to get to it,
but it didn't happen,i wonder why this movie has two names, one is Shelter the other
is 6 Souls, both starring Julianne Moore and Jonathan Rhys Meyers, and Jeffrey DeMunn,
and here's another movie i could not hear the voices it was so low have to stop buying
poorly done blu-ray.should've know it was going to be,because it went right to blu-ray-dvd.
no time in the theater at all,it was so-so i give 3 stars.
DTS HD Master Audio.audio sound is good but voice not so good.
2.35 LB.,1080p
Runtime 115 minutes.
It's Not Really That Bad.definitely Not Great.

5.0 out of 5 stars not available in USA Dec 1 2011
We had been waiting quite awhile to see this film, because it was never released in the US & could not be gotten in dvd form either. We were very glad to see it available in Canada. We are devoted JRM fans & want to view everything he does. The movie is just okay, but he is great in it. The shipping was very fast, but expensive for international delivery. It was a smooth transaction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really good movie May 18 2013

Jonathan Rhys Meyers did a super job in this movie, as did Julianne Moore.
It is a shame that SHELTER got little to no play in the U.S....it certainly would have been
worth the price of the ticket.BUY IT!!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Ironic... April 22 2012
By Ashley Baran - Published on Amazon.com

I had to buy this movie from out of the country...watch it on my comp as a region 2....and as im watching it the scenery looks familiar....it was made right in my home town... i couldnt believe all that trouble and it was filmed here...ha anyway jonathan does a wonderful job playing duel characters the way he did..he really made each one different...although i was disappointed where they went with the story as it unfolded...i dont really know where i wanted it to go..however it wasnt there.....but the ending made it a tiny bit better. I would recommend it to people but i wish they would release it in the states..

5.0 out of 5 stars Tense, surprising and well acted June 2 2012
By Freeway - Published on Amazon.com
Intrigue, suspense and tension is what Julianne and Jonathan and their supporting cast deliver in this film...so well acted individually and together right up to the finale! I simply cannot believe that Julianne does not have a number of Oscars under her belt by now...she so draws you right in to the journey she is on and makes each step along the way believable and inevitable but you only realise this once it takes place. Fab film to watch and enjoy and without a doubt Jonathan pulls out the stops too.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Shelter" with Jonathan Rhys-Meyers and Julianne Moore March 13 2012
By Summer - Published on Amazon.com
For some reason, this page for the movie, Shelter, has the wrong tags attached. The movie Shelter with Jonathan Rhys-Meyers is not available in the US (yet) -I've seen the PAL version. It's a great psychological thriller! JRM's character is complex and he plays it extremely well. This is one of the best psychological thrillers I've seen in a long time...it's a shame they haven't released it in the US yet. There is a link on the page for facebook but it brings you to the wrong movie. Happens to be also named Shelter. Anyone who owns a region free player, I'd recommend this movie.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Nice Movie May 18 2013
By J.P.P. - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
The movie was, apparently, straight-to-DVD, which I find disappointing, considering that Julianne Moore is one of my favorite actors (of female actors, two are actually my favorites: Ms. Moore and Cate Blanchett - they are both actors whose movies I watch just because they are in them, just as I watch movies with Johnny Depp, Robert DeNiro and Brad Pitt. Natalie Portman is getting there - Black Swan was great).

Both actors in this movie give excellent performances, although the movie itself does not stand out. But if you are a fan of Moore or Rhys Meyers, do watch.
