Product Description

Holmes is just days away from bringing down the biggest criminal ringleader in London. But his quick and wicked foe is as cautious and intelligent as he. When Moriarty learns of Holmes' plans against him he releases an evil on England the likes of which no civilised man had ever seen. In a desperate attempt to save England and perhaps the known world, Holmes and his trusty friend Watson travel across Europe to find the source of Moriarty's new found power and end him and his wicked plan for good. With the aid of every friend and ally they can find, the two detectives make regular and efficient usage of their shared experience of boxing, fencing and firearms in a bloodthirsty adventure.

2.0 out of 5 stars The Game is a (Dead) Foot!, Mar 1 2011

This review is from: Sherlock Holmes and the Zombie Problem (Paperback)
There have been a spate of bizarre literary mashups of late: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (granddaddy of the new genre); Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter; Android Karenina; The Undead World of Oz; and The War of the Worlds, Plus Blood, Guts and Zombies. I read and reviewed the first and last from this list and while appreciative of the uniqueness of these efforts, I found them one-trick ponies that quickly grew boring. Yet, I could not help myself from picking up Sherlock Holmes and the Zombie Problem as a fan of the consulting detective and curiosity regarding how he would deal with such an adversary.

The plot involves Holmes' nemesis Moriarity (who actually appeared in only one of the original Conan Doyle stories) and leads to a confrontation at the famous Reichenbach Falls. But this book is less a mashup that draws directly on a historic work of fiction, it is more an original tale. I applaud the author's use of language and often, when speaking as Watson, it is reminiscent of the original mysteries. Unfortunately, it falls victim to repetition - they seem to battle zombies at every train station in Europe. And though the author tries to factor in a criminal case, it is over-shadowed by endless exploding heads.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dreadful, simply dreadful, Jan 31 2011

This review is from: Sherlock Holmes and the Zombie Problem (Paperback)
Possibly the most badly written book I have ever encountered. It struck me that the author was not actually a native English speaker, and perhaps it was translated (badly) from another language. Stilted, bizarre dialogue, which is in no way meant to resemble the previous writing of Sir ACD. It's a pastiche, so it ought to match in tone the actual Cannon. But it doesn't ! The whole thing is atrocious.

Don't buy it, don't recommend it. Borrow it and read a chapter and be amazed at just how bad a book can be.Who is the editor ? They should be fired for allowing this exploitative piece of work onto the market.

1.0 out of 5 stars wasnt this supposed to involve sherlock-like deductions, Jan 12 2011

The book was all about slashing and slaying zombies. I love zombies. I love Sherlock. But this book was not about Sherlock, other than his name is in it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother..., Jan 17 2012
By Tony L - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Sherlock Holmes and the Zombie Problem (Hardcover)
This is more of a hack and slash story than anything else. However, the largest offense here is that the author tries to write in the style and language of the original Doyle stories and fails miserably. Some of the author's prose and nonsensical and, at best, awkward. With so many other good Holmes stories out there, a reader would be better off skipping this sophomoric attempt altogether.

5.0 out of 5 stars An outrageous whirlwind adventure and zombie slasher!, Jan 13 2011
By Nick Nailer "Flashing Blade" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Sherlock Holmes and the Zombie Problem (Paperback)
Great fun read. It was interesting to see how the reader wove the original Conan Doyle short story of `Final Problem' with his own zombie action story. The characters are outrageous and there are some interest period and fictional ones brought in. This was both a fun adventure story and an exciting zombie action one.
