Top Customer Reviews

By Daniel on Jan. 10 2004
Format: Audio CD
Of the two MuchMusic CD collections (this and MuchDance), Big Shiny Tunes has usually remained pretty consistant, and the eighth edition proves to be no different.
Bringing together such songs as "Somewhere I Belong" by Linkin Park, "Girl's Not Grey" by A.F.I. and "Go With The Flow" by Queens Of The Stone Age, mixed with a VERY healthy dose of Canadian talent (Fefe Dobson, Sum 41, Nickelback, Sam Roberts, etc), this edition is right on par with the quality rock compilations released these days.
Honestly, my only complaint, if you can even consider this a complaint, is that the amount of Canadian talent is overwhelming. Yes, it's great to throw in 4 of 5 Canadian rock tracks, but on this CD, Canadians have a majority, with 10 of 18 tracks belonging to Canucks (Three Days Grace, Sum 41, Roberts, Simple Plan, Theory Of A Deadman, Dobson, Nickelback, Not By Choice, gob & The Salads). In a year when many international musicians had huge rock hits, I would have loved to see some 3 Doors Down, Evanescence, Good Charlotte, Staind or Audioslave.
In any case, BST8 ranks up there with all of MuchMusic's great albums. I recommend it.
