1.0 out of 5 stars Sonic Youth for Collectors only Feb 4 2001
Format:Audio CD
When I buy rare Sonic Youth stuff, I always hope for stuff like "Genetic" (found on the 100% single or My So-Called Life Soundtrack). But more often than not, you end up with stuff like this, which is little more than noise. Track two on this CD (of 4), is someone screaming over a record playing in the background. The other tracks are "Written by the DC Youth Brigade, 1981, called No, Part 2", and are much of the same. Except with different background.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Sonic Youth fan. But if I were to start a garage band, I would guess I could turn out something of this quality. If I did, I sure woulndn't charge people over $2 for it. This CD is for collectors only, the average fan likely won't listen to it more than once.

2.0 out of 5 stars silly noise Jan 23 2001
Format:Audio CD
I am a big fan of SY, but this I don't like. I have just about every release by sonic youth. LPs, EPs, singles, bootlegs, side projects, you name it. Unfortuneately, I have only been into the band since 1995, and have only very recently acquired the funds with which to purchase their catalogue. When this was re-released, I had to buy it. SY occasionally releases music that is very noisy, and pointless, but this takes the cake. I am one of the few that likes the SYRs, silver session, or Ciccone Youth, but this is too much. It's 9 minutes, (4 tracks, a grand total of 9 minutes and 20 seconds. not very ambitious)and it is comprised of Thurston Moore and the Boredom's Yamatsuka Eye screaming while noisy guitars and drums randomly thrash in the background. It's all right for a listen..., but you won't listen to it more than once. It doesn't bring new enjoyment with each listen like other SY recordings. I do recommend it for hardcore SY fans. The package is wonderful digipack and the art is nice. It was very limited the 1st time around, and considering it's so bad, probably won't be around much longer. if you are new to sonic youth and you were attracted by the interesting title, i might recommend sister, washing machine, or daydream nation first. those are the masterpieces.

Do you want screwed up? How screwed up? With Yamatsuka Eye of the indescribly amazing Japenese band the Boredoms, Sonic Youth deliver their most interesting, choatic and downright weird CD yet. Play it to your teenybopper sister if you want a reaction. Plus it is the only Ecstatic Peace! record available in Europe - enjoy
