Great for a palate expander March 22 2013

My son plays lacrosse, and recently had a palate expander put in. I didn't want to have to re-fit his mouthguard before every practice as we are turning his expander, so I got this Shock Doctor Adult Braces mouthguard to try. It has worked very nicely as his mouth is expanding.
Fits around a palate expander, and over the brackets from braces. It is not fitted, so there is no need re-fit the mouthguard as teeth move. My son finds it comfortable.
This mouthguard is a soft material, and my son had an adjustment period since he had been using a fitted mouthguard, which is a much harder plastic. He also had a more difficult time putting the mouthguard in his mouth around his helmet cage, since the mouthguard is soft and floppy.
This mouthguard has saved us quite a bit of money and hassle while we are turning my son's palate expander. It also serves the intended purpose of safety. However, my son does complain about it being more difficult to put in his mouth around his helmet. Overall, I like it, and will purchase another if the first one wears out before his palate expander is removed.

Works well, no need to boil. Feb. 19 2015

I bought this for my 14 year old son who plays Lacrosse. He wears top and bottom braces. The mouthguard does not need to be boiled to fit like most others. It is ready to go right out of the box. Not only is that convientent, but it makes it great to carry an extra in his bag as a spare since it is ready to go at anytime should something arise. He can still communicate well while wearing it and it does not hamper his breathing. He claims it is comfortable and although it only covers the top teeth, it provides great protection.

Perfect for football players with braces! Sept. 9 2013
By David Douglas - Published on

I have purchased Shock Doctor mouthpieces in the past for my kids and have been very happy with the level of protection provided at a very reasonable price. There has been a lot of press around football and concussions lately, and while the data isn't definitive that mouthpieces can prevent concussions, no one seems to disagree with the fact that there is value in the extra protection they provide. It only takes a few dollars extra to get your child a quality mouthpiece.

My oldest won played football in college and each year they would make a custom mouthpiece for each player. He looked at the Shock Doctor mouthpiece I bought for his younger brother last year and was very impressed with the quality of this off-the-shelf mouthpiece.

Between last football season and this my second son had braces put on and needed a different mouthpiece for that application. He reports being happy with the mouthpiece through the first three games of the season. The durability seems to be excellent, but he isn't what I would consider hard on mouthpieces.

If you are looking for a high quality mouthpiece for a player with braces at a great value then this mouthpiece is a good choice.

My son loves waring this mouth guard for hockey! He tends to bite hard and wears through them every couple of months but this is his favorite.

We looked at a lot of mouthguards to wear with braces for my 7th grade football player. It is good having the attaching cord
These are not as bulky as most mouthguards
