My son plays lacrosse, and recently had a palate expander put in. I didn't want to have to re-fit his mouthguard before every practice as we are turning his expander, so I got this Shock Doctor Adult Braces mouthguard to try. It has worked very nicely as his mouth is expanding.
Fits around a palate expander, and over the brackets from braces. It is not fitted, so there is no need re-fit the mouthguard as teeth move. My son finds it comfortable.
This mouthguard is a soft material, and my son had an adjustment period since he had been using a fitted mouthguard, which is a much harder plastic. He also had a more difficult time putting the mouthguard in his mouth around his helmet cage, since the mouthguard is soft and floppy.
This mouthguard has saved us quite a bit of money and hassle while we are turning my son's palate expander. It also serves the intended purpose of safety. However, my son does complain about it being more difficult to put in his mouth around his helmet. Overall, I like it, and will purchase another if the first one wears out before his palate expander is removed.
