Product Description

Album Description

There's no such thing as a band born to greatness. To succeed in the world of music there's a whole energy-sapping storm of hard work to plough through. Florida's Trivium has surely earned the major contender status that has been afforded them by the international media. Trivium's sophomore release (and Roadrunner debut) Ascendancy (now certified Gold in the U.K.) made them a hit with discerning music fans everywhere, The album garnered a large number of frothing, ultra-positive reviews throughout the music press around the world, including Metal Hammer, Rock Sound and Kerrang , who declared Ascendancy album of the year. Trivium soon graced the covers of a lot of these magazines and picked up a fistful of coveted awards, including 'Best International Newcomer' at the 2005 Kerrang! Awards ceremony and several Metal Hammer Golden God statuettes. 2006's follow-up, The Crusade was a faithful account of a great young band's swift and bewildering evolution, from up-and-comer to world-beating behemoth, and delivered their first UK Top 10 album. More touring followed - first on a gargantuan Arena tour with their Metal heroes Iron Maiden and then a sold-out UK headlining tour that culminated at London's infamous Hammersmith Apollo. 2008 sees Trivium change it up yet again on 'Shogun', choosing not to record in the familiar environs of their home state of Florida. Instead the band headed to Nashville, Tennessee to work with producer Nick Raskulinecz (Rush, Foo Fighters, Stone Sour). The result is a monolithic album that crystallizes the band's sound and showcases Trivium's finest elements. Vocalist/guitarist Matt Heafy is thrilled with the album, saying, "We made a cohesive, epic metal album that combines all of the ingredients of everything we feel we have ever done 'right' musically, while adding a new direction that the music called for. We had so much fun creating this album and hope our fans feel that energy when they listen." Even Slayer's Kerry King, an undisputed heavy metal god, expressed excitement about touring with the band this fall on the "Unholy Alliance: Chapter 3" European tour. He commented to the UK's Total Guitar magazine, "I'll be at the side of the stage watching them. Great players like that make us want to do better." Looks like the metal community is waiting with baited breath for Shogun.

4.0 out of 5 stars not bad, Feb 9 2012
This review is from: Shogun (Special Edition) (CD/DVD) (Audio CD)
it's not a bad album but i was expecting more from Trivium i haven't finished the whole cd yet but
i listened to most of it and alot of it sounds the same but arguably the best songs are
"Down from the sky" "into the mouth of hell we march" and "Shogun" but the rest aint nothing special
so i can't really say not to buy it but definatly look at other albums before you buy this!

3.0 out of 5 stars Take Heed, Shogun falters, Oct 29 2008

I hate to start off on a negative but Shogun's flaws seem to be my focus more than any positives at this point. The album comes off cold and sapped of energy. This is the same complaint I had with Shadows Fall's last disc; coincidentally it is the same producer. Songs also follow a similar pattern and it does not take Simple Jack to figure it out after a couple of songs. It seems the boys have tried to cram everything they do into every song but it is too much in too small a space. Say what you want about their last disc, The Crusade, but in a few years with a level metal head you will recognize it as their best effort just because it was an honest representation of what they wanted. Not caluclated and perhaps forced like Shogun. Alright enough of the negative. Something good, something good... These kids can play and forget that they ain't metal enough, they are. If you liked the band before you will probably get into this. Make sure you get the one with the bonus tracks, "Poison, Knife or the Noose" and "Upon the Shores" for me they are the best tracks on the whole thing. Odd.

5.0 out of 5 stars By far the best CD of the Year (2008), Dec 14 2008
By Alecus "Alecus Metallus" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Shogun (Special Edition) (CD/DVD) (Audio CD)
I have to say, I thought that with their earlier CD 'The Crusade' Trivium had sort of lost a little of their power and awe inspiring drive that was so evident in 'Ascendancy'. But with 'Shogun' Trivium have served up a combination of both earlier works and engineered the most mind blowing masterpiece i have heard in a long time.

If their was ever a CD that has created such a phenomenal comeback, it has to be Shogun. I honestly can't stop listening to it. Mat's vocals are so powerful, the lyrics and the singing are by far the biggest hit with me. Not just that though. These riffs that Trivium have created just blow the mind - Kirisute Gomen - unbeatable!! Trivium have also created this air of mystique on Shogun that is so very rare in music these days.

I have to say, i was pleasantly suprised, and so glad i was blown away when i bought this CD. You will be too. A perfect 10/10.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfection, Oct 30 2008

I'm speechless - I had the opportunity to meet these guys in Corpus Christi - and they're awesome - down to earth and fun guys. I can honestly say that the music they have created in shogun will blow you away - the riffs, solos, choruses - everything has been put together perfectly...It's by far Trivium's best sounding album ever - it's an in your face sound that simply makes you tap your foot or bang your head. Into the mouth of hell we march with Trivium and their masterpiece - Shogun.

Matt - Corey - Travis - Paolo = the best musicianship ever!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Metal Albums of 2008, Oct 4 2008
By N. Mongoni Jr. "imurealdad" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Shogun (Special Edition) (CD/DVD) (Audio CD)
Personally, I gotta give it to these guys: this album really kicks balls and was well worth the wait. Literally from start to finish a killer modern metal album. I purchased release day and it's been spinning ever since. These guys are truly underrated and this stuff is deeper and more technical than they're given credit for. It's definitely an upgrade compared to "FROM EMBER TO INFERNO" (meh) , "ASCENDANCY" (which I really dug) and "THE CRUSADE" (which was ok), much darker and more epic.

If you're a fan of they're older material you'll absolutely love this one. As Heafy himself said, "SHOGUN is the past, present, and future of TRIVIUM". Pick it up!!!
