Product Description

Eleven-year-old Toe Thompson is the designated punching bag for the bullies of the suburban community of Black Falls, where his and everyone else's parents work for Black Box Industries, makers of the do-it-all gadget that's sweeping the nation. But during a freak storm, a mysterious Rainbow Rock, which grants wishes to anyone who finds it, falls from the sky. Suddenly, the neighborhood that Toe already thinks is weird is about to get a lot weirder. As the Rainbow Rock ricochets around the town - from kid to kid and parent to parent - wishes come true and quickly turn the neighborhood upside down in a wild rampage of everything from tiny aliens to giant boogers.

I found this movie a refreshing change from the usual ones purchased for my 5 and 7 year olds. The story is written in such a way that is creative and fun, even the layout of the movie is unique- short stories. Both my children enjoyed 'Shorts' and I would recommend it to anyone tired of Hannah Montana and violent Super Hero movies.

My daughter loves this movie. I got it for her for Christmas along with a "Wishing Rock". She was so excited to get it.
I find the movie to be a bit strange.

Awesome Family Fun!!! Sept. 16 2009
By Pumpkin Man - Published on Amazon.com
Format: DVD
I thought this was a really good and very funny movie that the whole family will love! It has an awesome plot, funny situations, and lovable characters. The movie is told out of order in a series of 'short' episodes! In the town of Black Falls, all the adults work for Black Box Unlimited Worldwide Industries Incorporated. Toby Thompson is a lonely kid who gets picked on gets picked on by Mr. Black's kids, until Toby finds a Rainbow colored wishing rock that will grant his every wish. Toby is just one of the many kids who have found the rock, like Nose Noseworthy, Loogie, Cole, and Helvetica Black. When Mr. Black gets ahold of the rock, he uses it for world domination. Can the kids of Black Falls stop him before he becomes mad with power? I highly recommend SHORTS!!!

Fun for the whole family April 7 2014

This entertaining movie is about some kids who find a wishing rock--and then tussle with the moral implications of having that much power. Of course, grownups manage to mess things up along the way. With cameos from Leslie Mann, Jon Cryer, James Spader, and William H. Macy, along with some fun special effects, this was one we all enjoyed. We showed it for my third-grader's sleepover, and it was a hit with everybody...also, clean without being boring. My six year old liked it just as much.
Great Kids Movie March 4 2010
By D. Spicer - Published on Amazon.com

My 8-year-old and 9-year-old LOVE this movie. I can't count how many times they've watched it. All the gross kid stuff is extremely funny to them. Like many kids, they've experienced or witnessed bullying, and I think the lead character is easy for viewers to sympathize with. It's also nice how viewers get an idea of what causes the bullies to act as they do. Of course, kids love the idea of having "special powers" to get what they want, and I think it's helpful for them to see how having such powers can get out of hand. The messages in the movie are good points of discussion to have in the family. I also like that I don't have to mute out profanity, or explain more mature situations - I don't remember hearing/seeing them in this movie! That makes it truly a kids movie.

We got the Blu-ray that also came with a digital copy. So, we got two discs: one for the Blu-ray player, and one regular DVD that works in the portable DVD player. This made everyone VERY happy! We could take it in the car, but still have the really sharp Blu-ray version when we watched on the home system.

I recommend it for the kids' video library.

Shorts...... Nov. 29 2009

A cute family movie geared towards the younger generation! It was fun to watch with the children though.Mostly clean with a little crudeness.
It ain't Fellini. March 30 2010
By M. J. Sanford - Published on Amazon.com
Format: DVD
A fun kid flick from the SPY KIDS (et al) director. It's silly, goofy, fast-paced, visually bizarre, well-acted, and fun. It's as good as any kid flick out there, and better than lots (WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE? yuch.), but not in the same league as TOY STORY and their ilk.

I don't know why so many people over-criticize this movie. It ain't Fellini- it's a kids movie. It's *supposed* to be non-linear.

Lighten up. Enjoy it for what it is.
