Product Description

From Amazon.com

The big-label bow of this Toronto-born, classically trained pretender to the contemporary crooner crown comes bundled in a shrewdly frank marketing gambit. Dusk scored a recurring role on the reality series Casino as a young, wannabe showroom headliner. As with virtually every ambitious retro-pop male vocalist since Harry Connick, Jr., the musical touchstone here is Sinatra, from the album's title track (an 80th-birthday gift from U2 to the Chairman himself, who never recorded it) to a rhythmically sprightly take on "Fly Me To the Moon." But what noses the 24-year-old Dusk ahead of his rat-packaged competitors here is a promising understanding of the canon that goes deeper than mere ring-a-ding-ding trappings. While his bold, downbeat recasting of the Beatles' "Please Please Me" falls short of its ambitions, songs like "Lonely Road," "Every Mother's Son," "Always" and "Five" (the latter two tellingly co-written by the singer himself) have a reflective, autumnal tone that gratifyingly echo Sinatra's own period of willful, introspective reinvention in the mid-1950s. --Jerry McCulley

Album Description

Includes 3 tracks not available on the USA version. "Two Shots" takes elements of the 'rat pack' era (great vocals, style and sophistication) and gives this classic genre a 21st century spin, with state of the art production and unique new material providing a contemporary sound with a nostalgic twist. "Two Shots" principally features original compositions but also includes an original ballad-esqe treatment of teh Beatle's classic "Please, Please Me" and "Two Shots", a number penned by Bono in honor of Frank Sinatra.

5.0 out of 5 stars You won't beleive his voice!, Jun 17 2004
This review is from: Two Shots (W/1 Bonus Track) (Audio CD)
Being an avid fan of Jazz music and vocals, I wasn't sure what to expect out of this CD...but what I heard far surpassed my expectations. The title track brings together incredible vocals and great work from the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Dusk puts his own spin on The Beatles' "Please Please Me", creating an introspective, somewhat remorseful tune, working with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Along with originals from Dusk, he pays homage to jazz greats of the past with a crisp rendition of Bart Howard's "Fly Me to the Moon". I was looking for someone who could provide a bit of the Rat Pack nostalgia, and this CD does the trick. I defintely recommend this CD for fans of any kind of music...Jazz, Swing, AC, anything. Whatever your tune is, Matt Dusk can sing it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Work of Art, Oct 28 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Two Shots (W/1 Bonus Track) (Audio CD)
One listen to "Two Shots" and I believed in that voice, and one listen to the CD and I was completely hooked. He's got the voice, the songs, the musicians, and the presentation that make this CD a work of art. It's a must-have!

5.0 out of 5 stars Miracle-what else can I say?, Mar 10 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: Two Shots (W/1 Bonus Track) (Audio CD)
Matt Dusk is an awesome singer with his jazzy way of performing. Running across this cd was one of the best things that could have happened to me- for the music is stunning. Yes, many of the songs may have been written by other singers, but it's his new twists on them that make this cd fun. It surely is worth your consideration.
