The bigger they are, the harder they fall—in love.
Soldier Cameron McKay has found his niche, and it ain't ropin' steers and wearin' spurs. His deputy sheriff job, plus battle injuries that ended his military career, keep him right where he wants to be: Off the ranch and away from his family's pity. His darkest war memories are on lockdown, leaving him skeptical he'll ever find a woman who wants a man who's less than whole.
Domini Katzinski has had to control every aspect of her life since age eleven, when she was orphaned in the Ukraine. Watching others' relationships crumble has convinced her to focus on the short-term and find a take-charge man to whom she can relinquish total sexual control. Cam fits the bill: gorgeous, with a brooding vulnerability no one else seems to see. Plus, he has his own handcuffs.
Once Cam gets over his surprise that sweet, shy Domini wants to be dominated, he is back to issuing orders. Their passion is as hot as a rocket-propelled grenade—and if Domini has her way, it's a one-shot deal. Cam wants more, and launches a full-out sensual assault…until tragedy strikes, forcing him to change tactics as he tries to keep past demons from blowing their future together all to hell…
Warning: this book contains down and dirty games of good cop/bad cop, salty language, sweet ‘n hot lovin', menage a trois, and hooah! a hero packin' serious heat.

CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF THOSE ROUGHRIDERS,
By
This review is from: Shoulda Been A Cowboy (Paperback)
As I've said before Lorelei James can do no wrong with her Roughriders series. Somehow she always manages to keep the storylines fresh and the numerous sexcapes just different enough that they never feel formulaic or repetitive. We're also guaranteed updates on the ever growing Mckay family and usually a couple of surprises or a tragedy just to keep us on our toes. Of course theres always all kinds of hot and sexy love making goin on but ultimately it's the addictive stories and sweet romances that keep me coming back for more. Here with book 7 we finally get smoking hot ex-soldier Cam and Ukraine transplant Domini's story. These two have been circling around each other for several years/books now but because both are dealing with physical and emotional scars, forging a relationship has proved difficult. Cam's also worried that his need for dominance in the bedroom will scare away the soft spoken and shy Domini. However once he learns that's exactly what she's looking for all bets are off. Domini craves a man that will dominate her in every way and that's exactly what she's going to get with Cam. This is one soldier used to issuing orders. Their relationship starts out more like a business arrangement than a love affair with rules discussed regarding the Dom/sub parameters, birth control and what they're going to tell people regarding their dating status. However it soon blossoms into a true partnership with depth, understanding and value. And as soon as this couple can stop keeping secrets, truly baring themselves they'll heal each others wounds inside and out. I'd been looking forward to Cam's story ever since he was injured in Rough Raw and Ready. Returning to Mckay country as deputy for the local sheriffs department. And just as I knew I would I fell hard for this damaged ex-soldier. Cam's body image issues and PTSD haven't been glazed over here and they're dealt with in a realistic manner. He doesn't want anyone's pity and his subsequent seclusion from the family, inability to ask for help, fear of falling, nightmares and even allowing Domini to see him naked during sex (or his missing leg at all) are believable yet heartbreaking. My only issue (maybe that's not the right word because I sure as hell enjoyed it) would be the bizarre 3xway thrown in with Cam's mysterious military buddy. This character and ménage came out of nowhere and seemed not only gratuitous but didn't really add anything to their story IMHO. So I'm not going to give away the plot because as usual tons of stuff happens and it was so much fun discovering it as I went along. I'll just say this was another great read that as always left me wanting more. Cheers.

Cam's story,
By Terri Doughty - Published on Amazon.com
Seventh in the Rough Rider Series by Lorelei James, Shoulda Been A Cowboy gives readers Cam's story. Cam is a member of the McKay family. He was wounded while in the Army, losing part of his leg, a pinkie and lots of scars. He's come home, not to work on the ranch but to be a police officer. He loves his job. For the past two years, he's had his eye on Domini. She's from the Ukraine and she's just as interested in Cam. You would think that being attracted to each other would do the trick but that would be too easy. They each have issues and secrets and each fear that if the other knows, they would lose them. As they slowly build a trust between each other allowing them to explore their sexuality, relationship and their friendship, disaster strikes shaking them up once again. Will they be able to work things out?Once again, Ms James involves her readers in the lives of the McKay family and leaves us wanting more. As Cam and Domini's relationship heats up, you can almost see that sparks. And it's not just hot sex, it's their give and take and desire to give each other what they want. Dropping in on a family dinner let's you catch up with the rest of the family. Not only do you catch up with the McKay's but secondary characters from other books make appearances and influence this story. It is possible to read this book and enjoy it without having read the previous books. However, each book is a sensual erotic delight and not to be missed. Besides who can get enough of sexy cowboys? Besides a really good romantic story, Ms James touches on other issues. This book gives an slight insight on domestic abuse and infidelity. It also shows the reader the closeness that members of the military can feel towards each other. While the story is hot, it also is based in a reality that feels totally correct and possible. If you like hot guys having hotter sex with a great story besides, give Ms James's books a try. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful

This is book #7 in Lorelei James Rough Rider series. Shoulda Been a Cowboy is my favorite thus far. The characters seemed so real, so raw. The way Cam struggled to share his feelings with Domini regarding his lost limb was so heartfelt. I loved the steaming hot d/s sex. Cam was totally alpha and Domini was such a giving submissive. What a great couple.
