UPDATE: October 23, 2013. BLU-RAY + DVD - SHOUT AT THE DEVIL - Lee Marvin, Roger Moore....
Well!! I finally got my copy from Amazon, last week, of the new Blu-Ray + DVD version of Shout At The Devil.
The picture is clear and the sound is good on both versions.
Amazon shows it as 1.85 widescreen format, which should be corrected.
The Blu-Ray/DVD package description reads 2.35:1 Widescreen format, Dolby Digital Mono and Runtime approximate at 150 minutes. The full version.

SPECIAL FEATURES: they only got a Photo Gallery of scenes from the movie.
There are no Scene Selections or Subtitles to choose from, which would have been nice. But I can do without.

On the whole, it is great to see this movie as it should be seen. This is the full version. I totally enjoy it. I recommend this movie to all who have waited for this new Blu-Ray/DVD version to come out. ENJOY!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Shout at the Devil July 11 2011
By PAK
Format:DVD
I purchased this copy from a market seller and right away I noticed something suspicious about the jacket title design
being in both English and Chinese.
The one shown on the main page of amazon.ca shows the title in english only and with the phrase: "original uncut edition"
across the top whereas the copy I recieved does not say this and is a completely different design layout.
As I expected the video and audio quality is poor which is a big disappointment because I remember seeing the movie on the big
screen and I know that if this was a proper quality DVD this movie would be excellent.

1.0 out of 5 stars Get a proper copy and it is a hoot! Feb. 6 2010
Format:DVD
I bought a copy as a present off a marketplace seller, and was very disappointed with the quality of the DVD "Shout at the Devil." The copy was from Asia; something not mentioned on the item's main page on Amazon.ca, and the image quality was more appalling than the original that I saw on the big screen in the 1970s. The upc code for the one I own is: 4 897005 024492 >.

1.0 out of 5 stars I was ripped off when I bought this DVD Nov. 11 2011
Format:DVD
This is the worst DVD I have ever purchased. Sound and picture are very poor. I feel ripped off. Do not buy this!

This is an amature copy and I am surprised Amazon agreed to sell such a poor product. The sound quality is very bad. The images are blurred and prolonged watching gives me a headache. Sound and image is poorly coordinated and does not line up. The whole thing is akin th a cheap pirated illegal copy ripped by someone in a theatre. They have offered me my money back but I really wanted this DVD. I might keep it just to have it. It is a good example of the garbage that you can get if one is not careful.

I think that amazon should send me a replaccement at no cost and if it is good then I will return this one.

I dont think amazon cares enough about me to do that.

I never saw it in a theater, but have seen it on TV. Enjoyed this movie with Roger Moore and Lee Marvin. Great adventure story taking place in Africa just before and after the outbreak of World War One. Partially based on a true incident involving a German warship taking refuge in the Rufiji River to make repairs. Roger Moore and Lee Marvin are teamed up to help the British in trying to destroy the warship. There are other events in the movie that lead them to this final climax that makes for great adventure story.

There have been so many boot-legged versions over the years with poor quality and edited 2 hour versions, it's about time this movie got its full release.

I'm glad to see this movie finally coming out October 8, 2013 on Blue Ray and DVD. This will be the full version running at 150 minutes.
Looking forward to the October release of SHOUT AT THE DEVIL.

3.0 out of 5 stars Gung ho adventure in 70's mould Feb. 8 2007
By Mr. Stephen Kennedy - Published on Amazon.com
This is far from a classic, but fans of Lee Marvin will be well rewarded with a flamboyant performance, and fans of Roger Moore with.. well, a standard Roger Moore performance.

Story is based on Wilbur Smiths novel of the same name, and loosely based around real events, albeit with fictional characters. Roger Moores Englishman forms an unlikely alliance with Lee Marvin's alcoholic rogue, firstly in the poaching game, and latterly in the fight against the Germans, 1914 style, in Zanzibar. One of the oddest casting decisions is Ian Holm as a loyal mute native!

The story has some appeal for looking at a time and location seldom visited by the cinema, but is hampered by vacillating wildy in tone - what starts as a light hearted buddy movie becomes something more grim as the war against Fleisher the German sadististic local officer becomes revenge, and ultimately climaxes in the battle on the German battleship.

The directing by Peter Hunt, who directed On Her Majestys Secret Service, has its own style, but has dated - and even then does not settle on side of farce or thriller. It is best however when skulking around and mounting tension in the final scenes. It is somewhat of an irony to see how Hunt would have directed Moore in a Bond movie! Hunt also pulled along another Bond veteran, John Glenn, who directed the action scenes for Hunt as second unit director and fulfills that role again here. He rightly went on as a successful director of Bond movies in his own right. Also present from Bond movie lore is Maurice Binder, who famously designed the titles for Bond movies - he performs the same function here albeit in more workmanlike fashion.

If you are thinking of buying - beware - the movie is washed out in colour, and sound is of low quality. Bizarrely, the German speaking scenes which were originally in English, have been dubbed into German - but not subtitled in English! Since many key scenes are in German, this is a near fatal flaw.

Basically it is a gung ho action movie with buddy movie elements, but is uneven in tone and lacking in clarity of vision, although illuminating an intriguing era in WW I history.

3.0 out of 5 stars NOT the longer, un-edited version as claimed Nov. 9 2010
By Flexi - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Unfortunately this feels like a bootleg version of a very fine movie. The movie gets 5 stars, the DVD gets one. Despite what is claimed in the technical description, this version runs about 114 minutes, well short of the original 150 minute original film. Also, the DVD is a very grainy copy of a pan and scan film, making it very apparent you are missing about half of each scene. The real tragedy is that there isn't another version of this film on DVD at the present time. I'd only consider buying this DVD if you really need any version of this fine film. In the meantime, all we can do is dream of an un-edited, anamorphic widescreen transfer of this classic movie. Evergreen Entertainment, who released this version says on the back of the box that the DVD is only authorized for sale in Hong Kong and Macau. Must be because no one else would be happy with such a poor effort.
