Après un voyage de noces idyllique, les jeunes mariés Fiona et Shrek sont invités par les parents de la belle, le roi et la reine du royaume de Far Far Away. Mais ceux-ci ne savent pas encore que, par amour, leur fille s’est changée en une ravissante ogresse. Sans compter que ce mariage n’arrange pas vraiment les projets du Roi.

Frais, drôle, techniquement irréprochable, Shrek 2 compte encore sur les voix d’un casting de rêve (Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy Cameron Diaz, Julie Andrews, John Cleese, Antonio Banderas, Rupert Everett, Jennifer Saunders) pour donner du sel à ses personnages. Plus nombreux que dans le premier épisode, ceux-ci, et notamment le Chat Botté, sont alors les courroies d’un humour dynamique et entraînant. Bourré de clins d’œil et de références au cinéma, aux contes de fées, mais aussi plus largement à la culture populaire, le film repose également sur une intrigue solide et rythmée, qui en profite pour égratigner quelques poncifs hollywoodiens. Un divertissement de haute qualité aussi hilarant qu’irrévérencieux – Helen Faradji.

I loved this movie. It was the first movie I ever took my 3 year old daughter to and she didn't bat an eye for the first 45 minutes. Our whole family loved it and the theatre roared with laughter throughout. It was very much different from the first but who needs to see the first one redone, right? I truly thought it was very well done and totally action-packed. Mike Meyers is the best!

I don't get the poor reviews - this film was everything the first Shrek brought and then some. The attention to detail was perfect, the characters hysterical, and the story wonderful for all ages. I was amazed at how intelligent, creative, and humourous this sequel ended up being. The constant parodies on Disney - absolute genius. In my opinion, the people behind Shrek have made another masterpiece. Looking forward to a 3rd Shrek!

A lot of fun, with good new characters voiced by John Cleese and Antonio Banderas. It just doesn't have quite the magic of the first film. But of course that's to be expected - part of what made the first so amazing was the wonderful world they created. Now that the world is familiar, it's hard to keep that same 'lightning in a bottle' enchantment.

Still, way better than most sequels, and worth seeing if you enjoyed the original.

Try to get the widescreen version -- with animation this nice and detailed it's a shame to lose big chunks of the image.
