An introductory drum roll drops out and is replaced by a single suspended electric guitar, which is then paralleled by a snare, filled in with the bass, and--crash!--"Cherub Rock," the opening track, is enveloped in an explosion of metal guitar. So the journey begins. This album is pre-experimentation vintage Pumpkins. Produced by Butch Vig (Garbage, Sonic Youth, Nirvana's Nevermind), Siamese Dream is first about guitars. Lots and lots of guitars. A very close second is Jimmy Chamberlain's unquestionably excellent power drumming. Throughout each song, Billy Corgan delivers angsty lyrics in his signature breathy whine. "Disarm" is a nice intermission halfway though the album. As the title of the song suggests, it throws the listener into a different mood with its full string arrangements and radiant orchestral chimes. But then it is back to the aural masochism--a pain that rarely sounds so sweet. --Beth Bessmer

SMASHING PUMPKINS Siamese Dream (2011 US Deluxe Edition 2-CD/1-DVD issue of the 1992 album. Comprises the 13-track CD album which has been remastered by Bob Ludwig along with an 18-track CD of previously unreleased and alternative versions of Siamese Dream era songs; plus a previously unreleased full length DVD featuring 18 tracks recorded live at the Metro in 1993. Also includes 13 postcards and a 24-page booklet which includes track-by-track anotations by Billy Corgan.

When amazon describes this vinyl pressing as heavy weight they mean it. When it arrived I noticed the record was particularly thick (about 6mm). Both records were perfectly flat. Sound quality was great as I expected and the album is excellent. I could go on about this album but chances are if you are reading this you already know how great it is.

Being a bit of an audio snob, and a fan of Smashing Pumpkins, I've spent a couple years looking for a new or lightly used vinyl recording of "Siamese Dream". What I found was nothing but huge disappointment... I just couldn't afford the hundreds of dollars people were re-selling their original pressings for. Thank you EMI for making it possible again to listen to this the way it was meant to be heard!
I'm not going to go into detail over the album itself, since if you're looking at buying this, you probably already know how great it is. Instead let me say how impressed I was with the mastering! It's refreshing to hear some labels still pushing for vinyl quality, and this is a shining example. On the 180g heavy-weights, you couldn't ask for a better cut. I was also really happy that they packaged all the original artwork, including the original cardboard sleeves, but the records themselves were wrapped in separate anti-static sleeves.
If you liked the album, this breathes new life into it. I HIGHLY recommend picking this one up!

I have owned this album, atleast 4 times so I knew what to expect. However, it comes in a nice package and some of the rare tracks that we use to hunt for prior to downloadable music!
