Pelleas and Melisande (23 minutes of the disc) is better known, but the others are not so common. This set of works is often recorded together. I have an old Nimbus disc with most of them. This mainly better.
The opening track, Cassazione, is outstanding, over 10 minutes of a rare piece.
Ondine and Bis are the two labels recording in the Nordic countries and the results are often similar. The Tapiola Orchestra is a 40 person orchestra of accomplished professionals who also work as soloists and in chamber music.( See for example a CD with Bach: Violin Concertos, Johann Sebastian Bach (Composer), Tapiola Sinfonietta and the Kuusisto brothers.)
Jean Sibelius: Karelia Suite; King Christian II; Pelléas et Mélisande [Import]
Raimo Laukka (Performer), Jean Sibelius (Composer), Osmo Vänskä. You can also get the rest of the works by Vänskä on assorted box sets.
The four stars are for the works, the performance would get 5 (Presto, Cassazione), or 4. The main suite from Pelleas and Melisande is pretty average, but has a distracting speeded up part near the end. So overall, 4.
